I think music tastes are like fingerprints.. Each one got his unique one... Think that we are already in a niche genre, basically "indicating" that members like at least some of ambient,electronic,medieval,epic/epic-black metal, epic soundtracks etc etc ... So in those spheres most of us here have already very "similar" tastes in contrast with your neighbor next door who listens to Rihanna or whatever that otherwise goooooood looking woman! And then again we see how much differently we appreciate each release.. In DS circles and especially on FB but here also people tend not to criticize or even post a "didn't enjoy" because of the (otherwise really helpful and welcoming) friendly atmosphere.. That's a plus a great plus for the community but a minus for the long-term critique and feedback for the artists.. I'm not telling it's working or not, I'm just simply pointing that out (after others have already done in the past in the FB groups).. Maybe Reddit and here could be more openly on this since the "Front Page" of DS now is Facebook groups, maybe not.. Returning to this thread, personally Old Tower is one of my keep-an-eye-on projects.. Not one of my favorites, but certainly one of the names I always check out. That all said, I didn't really like any of the two songs in Spectral Horizons but I enjoyed the two in Rise of the Specter which are the two minis the above one has into one.. So a half good one for me. And I didn't like at all Drachenblut while seeing such praise in the same time that makes me wonder... Haven't listened to his last one.. In this same thread, a few posts above people liked Isenfeldt - Hall Of Kings and Borg - The Triumph of Spring, both of which I didn't like at all (not even one song). While "medieval folk dungeon synth" as was put sounds great to me, turns out these two praised releases are not for me personally... That's the hard very hard part of many musical genres.. There is no easy way to filter even by just listening to one trusted blogger's reviews or opinion so you save some time.. If you really like DS you really have to dig deep and listen to almost anything to be sure that you're not missing something .. Sorry for the endless wall of text..

Unfortunately, listening to every DS outputs it's impossible for me...10 +/- releases each day are a too large amount of music. And yes, me too gives a listen to each OT (and other "big names") album when released, to keep myself updated about what's going on

np Radioactive Mausoleum - Radioactive Mausoleum ... charneloubliette.bandcamp.com/album/radioactive-mausoleumI read the story behind it and took a look at Wikipedia for Eben Byers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eben_Byers and didn't know his sad tale of radioactive exposure... Man, the myths that were floating from charlatan doctors in the previous century.. (Maybe even today ? ) ... The music really gives you the image of the luminosity ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium ) of the tragic man after he passed away... REALLY fitting music, perfect catch of it, feeling sometimes minimal, sometimes radioactive-electronic, sometimes even doomy or noisy but still above all dark and green radioactive ... This is a must to check I think... Only strange moment at the end of last track #6 after the end of song comes a 15 sec or something quiet part and then a "hidden" outro that mostly brings me Bioshock images really, but dunno why (my memory is not the best ..).. Still it doesn't ruin it at all, it feels right on place even there.. Strongly recommended! This is great stuff! I really dig it! Thanks for sharing!

It has comparisons to True Doom in this respect as it's close to the source, people who listen to a lot of DS of course realise that this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as DS goes and that it has gone in a 1000 different directions by this point, but there will always be a place for True Dungeon Synth imo.

Old Sorcery - Realms of Magickal Sorrow. I've been having a hard time enjoying the more ambient based one chord sound wall type of DS lately and this is exactly what I needed right now. A very strong release. Great sense of melody and just enough variance with some interesting production choices.

Currently listening to Forest Temple, great stuff. Feels old school but with a bit of polish. The man behind the project has a black metal project that Forest temple is an offshoot of, called Kommodus. Both projects are fantastic.
