Yeah, it's basically GTA: Horse. Which isn't surprising, considering it uses the same engine and is made by Rockstar. As an avid fan of western movies (and country & western music), I did not feel let down by the game though I do feel it could have given more freedom in how to complete missions. Rockstar have matured into good storytellers, though there wasn't exactly a huge amount of depth to the story.

Yeah the story was well written but I felt a lot of stuff was restricted by the way the gameplay formula worked. The pacing felt like a TV show you play for one hour at a time, especially with the way every mission was like "go here and then something goes wrong and now you have to shoot people". I still have to finish the epilogue though.

I actually liked the soundtrack to RDR2 a lot more than the first game. I think it had a nice italo western twist to it at times, but quite subdued. I also felt it nodded to the grimmer and more gritty modern westerns there, which was also a nice touch because I felt the game itself was a tasteful combination of the two. It was definitely far more "soundtrack oriented" than something like Roy Rogers style C&W, which is of course as it should be. Song-oriented stuff works for GTA with the radio stations, but I don't think cowboy horses were fitted with FM radios, ha ha.
I was also happy to hear some western standards - Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie - on the soundtrack, as well as some classic country performers. Although some felt a bit tacked on, especially Willie Nelson.
Incidentally, just listening to Luis Bacalov's soundtrack to Django, and I started feeling like starting RDR2 all over again.

I've just recently dived in to Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, and I'm in awe. While having played the previous ones, there is something about the sparse environment and pacing in the game that makes it so incredibly cathartic to just meander around the world, taking in every moment as a snail's pace. Normally I am much more aggressive with my progression through games, but for some reason this game really makes me want to take my time with it.

Played through the first Clock Tower game on SNES a few days ago. Really love the atmosphere and pacing of these games, the slow piecing together of clues to form the story, but still giving you little to maintain that fear and confusion as to what's going on. I like that it has multiple endings, but how you get to each one is a bit arbitrary, like going into certain rooms first. There's pretty much no way of knowing how exactly to get to one ending or another (save for the car ending). It has replay value this way, but you'd really just be rushing through things to see a certain ending. I've gotten two endings, but I think I'm fine not getting the others. I'm onto the PSX Clock Tower now, just finished scenario 2. I'd recommend these for horror game fans. Also, the first game is so close to the movie Phenomena. European mansion, deformed kid, secret doctor, main character looks just like Jennifer Connelly and her name is actually Jennifer. Not complaining because I absolutely love Phenomena, ha.

I just reinstalled Oblivion with a shitload of mods, and especially this one :
Which is a crazy farm mod with tons of things to do, in a superb setting.

Currently playing Skyrim/Enderal. I've been into Wargroove lately, really nice "Advance Wars-like" in a heroic fantasy setting. And i'm trying to get into Eye of the beholder and some rogue-likes (mostly Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead)

Playing through Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition with my friend, Bob.
Still early, so we are grinding in the first city before we are decimated by the outside world haha. My character is a Shadowblade, but from what I hear the Enhanced Edition Nerfed stealth so my focus is more on speed, duel wielding, and some magic to help out with situations.

Just started Hollow Knight yesterday and loving it so far. Last month I was on a Castlevania marathon replaying most of the games and playing some that I had never tried (Harmony of Dissonance, SCIV)
Also I have so many games on hold right now, I need to play them instead of replaying the same games lol. Currently on hold: Dark Souls III, Yakuza 0, Alien: Isolation, Grim Fandango, KH: Birth By Sleep, Shin Megami Tensei 3, Persona 3, Silent Hill 2. I have a serious problem lmao

Currently devoting a large chunk of time to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It's pretty difficult but to the point where it kinda forces you to get really good at it. The training mode also makes it pretty easy to start learning.

Lots of currently playing (and subsequently "never finishing" ) : I got an xbox one now that are kinda cheaper, while I'm amazed at how slow the turning on is on modern consoles, it's all worth it with Forza Horizon 4, a perfect racer if anyone is into arcade racers .. If Need for Speed, was waaaaayyy back your thing (1,3,5..) the evolution of the series in between that started with Outrun ends up in great open racers like Forza Horizon 4.. While there have been other good racers for sure with open nice looking worlds before (like Burnout Paradise etc etc), for a fast paced great looking and above all FUN a r c a d e racer FH is the best in years.. Great fun! I also tried to finally finish the remastered Full Throttle. Never played the original all these years and settled on the remastered which is the best version to play really.. I ended up with mixed feelings. The game has got so many praise from baaaack then, I was hoarding it to play "the right time", being a classic Lucasarts adventure with Bikes and Metal feeling. I understand that the game has its own cult following but while it has a great story, visuals and starts great, halfway through the game comes a shitstorm of some bike fighting you MUST do (no , I couldn't bypass em on the Remastered) which really prolongs the game life just for the sake of it (it's a quick adventure anyway <3 hours).. After some frustration and boredom I ended up seeing the rest of the 1 hour remaining of the game, full of set pieces and linear till the end, on youtube). I've not missed much really. Sum : As a game overrated, as visuals, cinematics, story it is one to check out for sure : 80%. Finally, after the BALDUR's GATE 3 announcement which I hope everyone in this forum should be happy about, I'm looking for some good RPGs to cut my teeth and original Fallout which I've tried like 10 times to start ended up installed.. As usual I play a bit and restart again refixing my character's build, I even watched a 20 minute guide in youtube on character tuning.. Ended up getting Falche's or something like that savegame editor, you know, just in case. (Yes cheap I know..)..

Inspired by the discussion about Moonstone and Barbarian in the video game music thread, I thought I'd mention this here: there's a new-ish (2016) game called Age Of Barbarian (available on Steam), a fantasy platformer hack & slash game which is very much inspired by old hack & slash games. Barbarian and Barbarian 2 in particular. Gore, fantastic enemies, and ludicrous amounts of scantily clad people. It's a pretty fun game, but only if you have a controller. It's totally unplayable with keyboard. EDIT: The game is so cliché and sleazy that if there is a computer game counterpart to trash movies, this is it.

DieuxDesCimetieres , this looks absolutely ridiculous so I'll have to check it out. This screen shot reminds me of Primal Rage, which is my favorite fighting game. Is it only available on steam? I try not to buy any DRM stuff, mostly stick to GOG for PC downloads. I've been replaying Final Fantasy VII recently. It's been about eleven years since I last played it, but it's really taking me back. I'm even playing it on a PSone for the full experience. My friends and I would talk about this game for weeks straight, essentially wasting our lunch periods at school and not even getting food, literally just hanging around outside of class after the bell to talk about this game. A few days were even spent ditching school, getting Panda Express chow-mein, and playing FF7 with a friend or two. I know essentially everyone looks at FF7 through rose-tinted glasses, but I don't even care. The prerendered backgrounds are too iconic to not pour over even though you can't really interact with much. I'm wary of the remake that's on the way since it looks pretty changed up. I'm not really a fan of the live battle system that later FF games got (I guess it really started with 7 with the timing thing and got more live from there), and it looks like that's the main system in the remake. I'll still get the game and I'll probably enjoy it, but it's going to be way too hard to not compare everything to the original. Anyone else have fond memories of this game?

Great post, I remember seeing FF7 for the first time on a playstation in my buddy's basement.... blew my mind then and forever changed the way I think about video games. Definitely altered my aesthetic sensibilities for good. I'm looking forward to playing the remake but I should really re-play the old one as well. My job just ended for the season a couple weeks ago so I've been enjoying the opportunity to do some serious gaming. I beat Metal Gear Solid 5 again, with 70% objectives completed, 70% missions S-ranked, and 84% overall completion. I may still go back and try to S-rank some more missions, I'm not dedicated enough to get 100% but I do truly love that game. This year I re-played through every Metal Gear Solid game (except I did not beat MGS2 yet, I need to go back and finish it). I also did a cosplay of Snake from MGS3: Snake Eater (photos here). Finishing the final game was honestly more emotional than I thought it would be. These games have become a major part of my life... I can honestly say that I love them. I also just beat Sekiro. Incredible game, very very beautiful, very very challenging. I chose the "Sad" ending (Purification), I will most likely play through again on NG+ and get the "Happy" ending (Dragon's Return). At times I truly did not think I was going to be able to beat this game, so it was very rewarding to finally finish. Has anybody else been playing this? I also just beat Blasphemous, another very cool game. Mechanically frustrating at times but the lush art design more than makes up for it. I got the bad ending in this one, I didn't even realize there was multiple endings but luckily you can continue playing after the game ends so I will most likely go back and do more. Next up on my roster: - Get the good ending for Sekiro - Get the good ending for Blasphemous - Finish MGS2 - I've been thinking about playing through Dark Souls 1 Remastered again, my girlfriend has never seen it before and I think she would like it.
