I couldn't get into Elex at all. Felt like a candy flavoured Fallout tbh, and all the worst "piranhabyteisms" thrown in. I should give it another go some time, but I was just so thoroughly unimpressed by it that I haven't got around.
But the Gothic remake prototype was a pleasant surprise and captured some of the original mood even though the PB's have nothing to do with it.
If you like Gothic, I recommend checking out a game called Outward. It's not a pure RPG (no levelling), but other than that, it's in many ways very close to Gothic.

DieuxDesCimetieresI'll definitely report back after I've played the Gothic demo. Interesting to hear PB wasn't involved, makes me a bit more skeptical considering Gothic 4 (which I never even bothered playing). But I've only heard good things so far so that's good. Going to add Outward to my Steam wishlist and wait for a sale, thanks for the recommendation.

Epilogue (obscure roguelike)
Aaron Hall's Dungeon OdysseyNice, never heard (or got my attention) of these two obscure kinda releases, appreciated and regards for playing some really nice stuff when listening to DS For those not about to google, here are the quick links : Again, thanx for bringing them into attention!! Appreciated!! As for me, currently playing/started 2016 Agatha Christie's ABC Murders, while I'm an old old school adventure gamer(and text etc.) I really appreciate the ease of use, life improvements, and general upgrade quality titles get these days.. I'm in the beggining of the game but still I really feel the evolution of adventure gaming in recent years I've dropped it really... Good stuff and I think anyone into mystery stuff should like it , not only adventure gamers.. Other than this, the usual Forza Horizon 4, Crimsonland on Steam, good old Microprose Magic the Gathering + classic emulated arcades are what I'm mostly on atm...

If there's any thing in this world I would know well, these are old games (circa 1990-2010, mostly in RPG and strategy part, and for PC only, sorry). So feel free to ask for suggestions

Great Griantor, currently I'm going through your two great posts with suggestions on Epic Heavy metal, great stuff and when I'm through I'll post there But on to this thread, I was already thinking of opening a new thread for Computer RPGs (after the recent reveal of Larian's take on Baldur's Gate (3)) so I think I might just to it since it's too big of a discussion (cRPGs) to fit in this general thread Until we create a thread though, thanx for the suggestions already, more (obscure,as above, especially lost freeware/shareware/etc) are always welcomed so looking forward.. I'll probably make mine in the new thread.. And btw I'm also an oldschool DOS PC follower since around 1991, in the days when the war among Amiga (500 mostly) vs Atari (ST mostly) vs PCs was the thing RPGs ( along with Adventures,RPGs,Strategies and later CD roms) turned the tides for the PCs to win the battle and prevail for eternity hehe!! /me creating a dedicated cRPG thread.. Also, take a look at this thread , very relevant : dungeonsynth.proboards.com/thread/478/crpg-addict-blog

My favourite game right now is Guild Wars 2, but I've also played the 1984 published DND game on DOS lately.

Currently I am playing all the fan missions, that were released for Thief II, because of its 20th anniversary. This will keep me busy for a few weeks

I somehow decided to go after many years to check out "current" (I mean, like decade stuff) adventure games and went with Agatha Christie's ABC Murders.. Just on the 8% total progress, but man, the quality of life improvement adventures have seen today.. Good atmosphere and it's been a while since I played an adventure - if memory serves my well.. And to think that I grew up as an Adventurer/RPG fanatic.. Anyway, I like the polishing modern titles get, I like it a lot..

Been playing Outcast 1.1 lately. It's pretty damn cool. It came out a few years before the first Gothic and it seems like it was a huge influence because there are many similarities. It's pretty cumbersome and clunky, not very intuitive, but considering it was one of the first 3d open-world action rpgs like this it still holds up pretty well and was way ahead of its time. It looks very crude and dated, but I like that primitive 3d look which is why I went with this one rather than Outcast - Second Contact (which seems like basically just a graphics overhaul). The voxel-based environment is particularly unique and interesting. I don't know if I'm going to play it all the way through, but I've enjoyed the time I've spent with it so far, a nice atmospheric journey through some alien worlds, with exploration being the main focus.

I've been playing Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate the past week. Basically, it's the original X-Com gone WH40K. I used to play this a bit in the early noughties but never got far, but now I just completed the fourth (or was it fifth?) main mission. It's got some interesting mechanics differences from X-Com, one of which is the importance of Overwatch/opportunity fire. Many fights have been won on the enemy's turn with units in Overwatch. Another major difference is that your troops can run, making them harder to hit (but also less accurate), which is a great strategy for sprinting to cover and drawing enemy fire.
Overall, well worth checking out even if I feel the USD10 price that on GOG is a bit steep.

I'm not big into gaming and most of what I play is older games (I'm 37, the last time I was anywhere near 'current' with latest games was around 2000/2001). However GOG and Steam provide the goods as we all know!
Yesterday I started playing Regions of Ruin which was free on Steam and it is safe to say I am really into it now!

Just beat this. Got super addicted since that last post. Amazing game, you got to meet it halfway because of its age, but like with Gothic once you really get a feel for the mechanics and environment and start juggling a number of quests at once, it just feels really good and keeps drawing you back. Very ambitious for the time, but also very buggy, unstable, and unpolished, but Piranha Bytes fans will know all about that and probably like me find that charming to an extent, and with this game that's definitely the case, it oozes character.
