Does anybody play Roleplaying games on other forums? play-by-posts are my favorite way to game.
does anybody belong to any good forums for this pursuit, or is anyone currently involved in a good adventure via forum?

Are you considering running one here if there's interest? I'd definitely participate.

Are you considering running one here if there's interest? I'd definitely participate. haha i'd certainly consider it if there was sufficient interest. I don't know if we'd get enough players given that the community currently seems somewhat small, but if we could find 3-4 dedicated people i'd say it's definitely a possibility

Well, everyone I've talked to is well aware of my love of RPGs, and I have a huge history both GMing and playing in them. I could certainly do a play by post game. Man, how old school that would be, I haven't done that in ages!

haven't done anything like this in YEARS, since I was posting on the GameFAQs forums back in like 2001. I'd be interested.

I'd be interested though I have no experience whatsoever with RPG's.

Well... it sounds like we have a party! This is great, I'm excited. I think this will be a good group, our shared interest in Dungeon Synth means we probably have similar aesthetic sensibilities. I don't have too much free time in the next few days (have to write an article for a magazine, visit family & finalize holiday gifts) but I will start pulling ideas together and come up with a prospectus probably sometime shortly after Christmas. Thank you all for your interest

Fantastic! Were you wanting to be the one running everything, dungeonsnake? I have a lot of GMing experience but it's all via real-time games, I've never run a play by post before, so I would probably elect you since you seem to have the most experience with the particular format.
Also, what system were we planning on using? Classic D&D, or something else? I have a large library of RPGs, including but not limited to:
D&D, of course -- various editions (all except 4th), various settings (Dragonlance, Planescape being my personal favorites), etc. Pathfinder The One Ring Burning Wheel 13th Age Numenera Dungeon World Symbaroum Torchbearer Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea Barbarians of Lemuria Tunnels & Trolls

i was planning on running it, yeah. of course if you have an idea for a campaign you should certainly start one! I'd love to play and there's no reason we can't have multiple games going at once, with different storylines and everything. i've run a few of these before. I would probably use DCC RPG, it's a little esoteric but it's a great system and a player can learn everything they need to know to play in a few minutes. when i have a clearer idea of what i want to do, i'll let you know

I played Pathfinder in real life for a few years, but only as player with several campaigns. I would love to join this as well, I think it would be fun to do it via the forum, text based. I had heard that Dungeon World was easy to learn, or quick to start with. But I also think that many people are already familiar with D&D, so that wouldn't be to much of a hassle neither?

Yes. I am sure there is more pressing concerns with dungeon synth at large...but PBP RPG you say? I played a PBP before and I forget how it went. I think something like an OSR game would be more ideal than lets say Dungeon World which is more interaction based socially. Something like Swords and Wizardry (clone of 0e) or Labyrinth Lord (clone of B/X) would work on PBP since it is less math. We just have to have a dice roller which I am sure this forum supports. The mods just need to make sure the plugin is installed.

well DCC is definitely an OSR game, and i think one that is in keeping with the dungeon synth aesthetic overall. indeed, any OSR-related game is going to be pretty dungeon synth-friendly. i dunno if anybody has any experience with that system, but if you're capable of understanding Pathfinder i could probably explain DCC to you in about 60 seconds.
i'm having visions of a campaign world already... a thick river winding away beneath a hellish sky. A wretched world weltering under a bloody sun, where misery is law and beaten iron your only ally...

sure www.goodman-games.com/downloads/DCCRPGBeta060811.pdfwww.goodman-games.com/downloads/DCCRPGQuickStartGuide060811.pdfit uses the same rules as any other D&D-like clone. roll d20 to attack or for skill checks, etc. the biggest differences are that A) it uses Zocchi dice in addition to "standard" polygonal dice - so, d3, d5, d14, d16, d24 & d30 in addition to d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 & d100 B) it uses something called the "Dice Chain" - that is to say, the size of the dice increases depending on certain variables. for example, you might start with a d20 roll for attack, but as you level up it may switch to d24 C) Spellcasters have to roll a check to cast their spells D) it uses special tables for Critical Hits and Spell Failures. All of these things are actually much easier to manage in a PbP game than irl, in my experience, because zocchi dice are easily manageable with a digital dice roller & the PbP format eliminates the need to quickly flip through pages to find critical hit tables and such.
