Phenomenal interview. Really great to have the space and cooperation of the artist to go that deep into the details of creative process and history.

Hi, does anyone of you knows how the percussive sound on Crypt of the Wizard's track n.2 is made? It reminds of a "deaf" bell or a hammer pounding on the anvil... Very inspiring percussion!

Yeah it sounds like a muted tubular bell or dampened xylophone strike or something. He owned a Roland JV30, so it's probably on there if you can find a sample pack or emulator VST.

yes, I have already searched for a VST version of the Roland JV series months ago, and found only a collection of ensemble soundfonts... Maybe it worths tweaking other VST instruments' similar presets, until that sound comes out as accurate as possible...

Indeed pathetic the person who stole Mortiis outfit and stuff, hope he finds/gets them back.. Stormcrow don't be ashamed, #@%@^@# people are everywhere unfortunately..
As I was checking Mortiis fb I noticed he was in Athens late April for a live, I didn't even know that. And I really would consider going to a live after some years (Dark Tranquillity 2013).. Missed that :/ Anyway I'm planning on buying his book sooner or later so I guess that's something!

youtu.be/j-RCM61Sb5sExcerpt from re-recorded version of "Γ
nden..." EDIT after listening: I don't like it. Sorry. Agreed, only the early years for me for the most part. I love Mortiis production until The Stargate album which is maybe my favourite. Said this, the new track sounds like an artifact. I don't like the sound of the keys, too "thin" for me, and I don't like how the drums have been arranged. Each musician on this forum can do far better than this. But, what I most dislike of this excerpt is the absolute lack of atmosphere, not necessarily meaning that old school atmosphere. Even the "Era 2" cyberpunk atmosphere is missing here, in case he was trying to blend his old stuff with his "new" course.

Though I kind of hear what this track is lacking (like a thin and somewhat "tinny/tin-like sound) and understand why one doesn't like it, I can't help but actually do like it. I'm some kind of sucker for martial drumming/beats and combining this with DS sounds is basically right up my alley. So I hope that maybe the final mixing will change the overall sound. At least I am quite excited (being the Mortiis fanboy I am since the mid 90s, haha).

This is that unreleased demo track preceding Smell of Rain. Pretty funky stuff. Sound just like the Smell of Rain tracks but more lofi, which is good in my book because I love that album. downloadmusic.mortiis.com/album/methuselah

Have you heard the bonus tracks on the Blood & Thunder reissue yet? Not as electro-industrial as this, but getting there. I hope there's like whole albums of this stuff in his attic to be found.

Oh damn, no I missed those. Just listened now though and I agree, I think they're excellent and have really unique sound, definitely haven't heard anything quite like this from him. There's almost a new age tinge, like maybe a bit of Enigma influence.
