For once I’m starting a thread that isn’t me rambling about stupid shit, and instead it’s a fun topic: year end lists!
What were your top picks? I’m going to expand this as the thread goes on but I’ll start with my top 5: 5. Book of Margery Kempe - Chaucerian Myth 4. Goblin Music - Ranseur 3. The Quest of Iranon - Voormithadreth 2. Blood Tower / Apothecarium 1. Chapter 1 - Alder Deep
This is just off the top of my head, subject to change! What do you all think? It is the final month of the year so I figure we can tentatively begin reflecting

This year was pretty prolific. I've sorted out my top 10, with a few honorable mentions included, but who knows what could arise in the next few weeks.

5. Old Sorcery - Realms of Magickal Sorrow 4. Trogool - Beyond the River Skai 3. Chaucerian Myth - The Book of Margery Kempe 2. Alder Deep - Chapter 1: The Descent 1. Voormithadreth - The Quest of Iranon

I had to contain my excitement as I listened to that on the bus. And Ranseur always brings me pleasure. I feel like a leering, hunchbacked goblin when I listen to his stuff on headphones at the grocery store. Also, your release “The Warden” has been the soundtrack to my bus rides for a while. I showed it to my friend and the only thing he said was “this is dungeongaze!”. So I’d put those as my top three right now.

I have to think this over, but some that I relly liked this year were among others: Sequestered Keep, Ranseur, Old Tower, Deorc Weg and, I see almost everyone agrees, Chaucerian Myth haha. This is my first really active DS year and it's been quite a year for me. A lot fo really good stuff, so I'll have to relisten and decide on my final list. And of course as said before, there's still the possibility that a new favorite arises this month...
EDIT: I also seem to like what I've heard from The Inquisitor thus far! Might as well be a contender for my list too.

I've probably missed many(+recent ones), but still I've listened to more than a hundred++ of this year's releases, judging by the 92 releases I've kept digitally.. There is ton of stuff that went unnoticed I think in the NYP (name your price) range / aliases / unknown stuff. This makes it pretty uncomfortable of having to name just a bunch of them while there is stuff I like that haven't listened to enough times already. Anyway, lists are lists are fun are lists, so wishing 2018 is as a great year for DS and ALL artists continue to do their thing-art for their own joy. If you don't see your name/alis in this thread mentioned by someone, it might be a cool thing since your album will be a future cult classic when people discover it (they will..). Finally without further ado my list of that haven't already been mentioned above, 5 favourite picks of mine in alphabetical order : A letter for Carmilla - Autumn Anubis - Cradle Of Civilization Digre - The Way of a Pilgrim DIM - Compendium I Erang - Songs of Scars Edit: (that Erang's album is not DS but still comes from a DS artist so I guess it fits in

Anubis - Cradle Of Civilization How could I forget to put that in my list? It's actually one of the few releases I own a physical copy of.

Anubis - Cradle Of Civilization How could I forget to put that in my list? It's actually one of the few releases I own a physical copy of. I never bothered to really check this one out. I’ve been meaning to actually start a conversation about it. I was always sort of struck by the unique thematic choice, but at the same time it was a choice that I didn’t care for 100%. I think part of my problem is that Egyptian mythology was sort of “demystified” for me a while ago since I went there on vacation at age 12 and had everything made very real and very touristy for me. Here’s an extremely #rare photo from that time. So since that time I guess I’ve never viewed Egypt as particularly magical or mystical. I’m probably one of the few people who met the Anubis release with limited enthusiasm and never really explored it...

I was always intrigued by the concept and release, but have really not liked much either artist in the collar has done before (it's Elixir and Balrog I think?) so that kinda stole my gusto about checking out this release.
