Some time ago I bought "Escape The Dark Castle", the first game published by Themeborne out of Nottingham, England. I found about it while going through the DS tag on Bandcamp! Yeah, this game has its own dungeonesque soundtrack, released and re-released on tape, now sold out. I'm new to this kind of games but because it was described by the company as "a simple, fantasy adventure game for 1-4 players, with a focus on storytelling, atmosphere and player cooperation β perfect for newcomers to tabletop gaming" I gave it a try and I couldn't be happier. The illustrations were penned in black by Alex Crispin, also responsible for the said soundtrack, in a style reminiscent of old school games and just about any DS hand drawn tape artwork. The details are really spot on, especially the custom dice. I only played it twice but the narrative and the design although simple proved to be very engaging and fun, especially if you go to the trouble of creating the right setting. As the title implies the goal is to escape a Dark Castle full of dangers and challenges. I see a few familiar supporters on the soundtrack Bandcamp page so I suppose some of you are already familiar with it but has anyone played it? Do you like it? I've seen it pop up quite a lot of times in the FB page and get enough praise, but to be honest I streamed it more than a couple of times on Bandcamp and it didn't click with me. And I did want to like from 1st sight due to the nice oldschool artwork but I found it just .. uninteresting, sorry to say..
Although to be fair if I had been playing the game while listening to it maybe it would fit.. But then again I'd prefer DS sounds I already like more so..

I'm not on FB so I guess there's a lot happening on the group that I'm not aware but I knew this couldn't have gone under the radar. Good to know! This company looks very promising, I think this game and the tape release were a clever way to stand out. Like you said, it was the setting and illustrations which made me love the game first and foremost. I reckon the game mechanics are not the most exciting but its simplicity allows the players to goof around a lot and not be too much focused on decision making. I would love to play a more complex game like Feast for Odin but the artwork is simply horrendous. I might try the Lord Of The Rings card game though but not before I finish the Cult of the Death Knight expansion I also bought!

I'm a huge fan of this game! I got all the add-ons for it. Have been lucky enough to play outside in dusk and it really added a new element to the game

Looks pretty cool. I'm not into board games at all, but the music was really nice!
