Had made this a thread previously, but took it down until I created a new, fully realized track. That has been accomplished, so here it is. Project started in 2007 when I first got a keyboard (A Korg... something or other) and it was basically a lot of screwing around (which can be heard on the demo album on Bandcamp), before making the 30-track full length that I released in 2012, which I created and recorded over a 2 year period. It took 6 years for me to make a new track, but it also came with me shedding a considerable amount of the Industrial skin off the project, at least as far as the first track goes. I don't tend to have a very set gameplan for making music, it just happens as it flows out of me. Bought a Roland JD-Xi a couple months ago and messing around with it, along with various VST plugins i've obtained, this is what came out of it. More to come. Enjoy! thebackwardsfuneral.bandcamp.com/track/ceremonyP.S. - When completed, am I required by 'Dungeon Synth' law to make a cassette tape?

At this point a bunch of dudes in Mortiis masks will confiscate all your synths and force you to listen to Era 3 records for a period upwards of ten to twelve months.

Side note: I'm unsure if i've ever actually heard Era 3 Mortiis. The last album I ever listened to was 'The Smell of Rain'. Is it bad? Or just not as good as Era 1?

New single out now in the form of "Descent", along with "Midwich" which was a leftover from the 'Blackout' EP. It's also free. Get it here: thebackwardsfuneral.bandcamp.com/album/descent-singleThe plan currently is to take both of these tracks, along with the material from both EP's in 2019 and a bunch of new tracks to come and throw it all together to become the second full length TBF release, which i'm hoping will see the light of day in 2020.

"Sanctuary" is now out. Download codes below. I was quite happy with the end result of this release, moreso than I was both "North" and "Blackout". It feels a bit more fluid from start to finish, while still being a bit weird and dipping into various styles. I have started to include more classical elements like piano and violin on top of the already evident Dungeon Synth, Industrial and Chiptune elements. Also there's a few Drone elements here and there. Hopefully a few people enjoy it as well. Thanks in advance for anyone who checks it out and, as always, feedback is always highly appreciated, positive or negative. I just want people to hear my creations. Some updates... There is a sampler for the some of the Chiptune-esque things i've been fiddling around with that can be checked out here. The next EP from The Backwards Funeral will be arriving on October 24th as "The Last Day: Part I". I made a video for one of the tracks off from the forthcoming EP, which can be viewed below. 'Under the Moonlight'

So I have never been shy about the fact that I never truly stick to one style with this project and that has become even more evident with my new release. Contained within "The Last Day: Part I" you will find songs in the vein of Dungeon Synth, songs in the vein of Chiptune (as well as a mixture of the two) and even elements of Synthpop, Ambient, Industrial and Horror Synth. Everyone says this about their upcoming release, but I personally think this is some of the strongest material i've created for this project thus far. I tried to make the tracks more engaging, with more emphasis on structure and having more hooks than i'd previously implemented. I don't want each of my releases to sound the same and monotonous. There's plenty of other DS bands doing that, so why add on to the pile, you know? Spoiler: more than half of the tracks on the album contain drums, but I tried to do them tastefully and not in a manner that would be a deterrent. For anyone who checked out the sampler I released a couple months ago, three of those four tracks are present here, although two of them have been tweaked since that release (I left "Within the Temple Ruins" as it was). I hope there's something for everyone here and I hope you guys enjoy what i've put together here. If you want more Dungeon Synth oriented things, I would recommend 'Ceremony 2.0', 'Danielle' and 'Under the Moonlight'. If you want more Chiptune oriented things, I would recommend 'Within the Temple Ruins', 'Towers Across the Ocean' and 'The Winding Clock'. The more experimented with tracks would probably be 'Trapped with the Dead', 'Skyline 2.0' and 'The Battle of the Ancients'. As well, a first for me... there will be an exclusive track from The Backwards Funeral appearing very soon on the next Shadowlore Compilation release called 'The Chamber of the Forgotten' that I think a lot of people will be into. I'd never been invited to be a part of anything like that before, so it's an exciting time for me. Be on the lookout for that release (I think it's coming on Halloween?). And as always, feedback is heavily welcomed! Anyone interested in a download code, just send me a PM. I've got plenty. thebackwardsfuneral.bandcamp.com/album/the-last-day-part-i

Just listened to Last Day, this album is all over the place! That’s a good thing in my book, i love anything that defies expectations. The progression in Towers Across the Ocean felt particularly original. I also think your percussion tracks are the best parts of the songs. They’re well thought out and they add a lot of welcome dynamics to the tunes.

I was really happy with how my percussion abilities have progressed over the last year or so and i'm glad someone else likes what's going on. Also, yeah, my brain doesn't allow for me to make a single minded collection of songs. I kept going in different directions and then going back and tweaking and re-tweaking tracks, but I am quite happy with the final result. If you have any interest in a download code for it, please let me know. I've got plenty!

I had some leftover material when I was putting together "The Last Day: Part I" that I didn't really feel fit into the EP, so I ended up putting it out in 2 different chunks. First is the 3-track "Beyond the Barren Lands" release, which I followed up with the 6-track "Enter the Gates" release. Both show further experimentation in different directions than showcased on the EP, but i'm proud of all the material I created during this window. Both are free and can be checked out below. "Enter the Gates" also contains the track 'The Chamber of the Forgotten' which was recently a part of Shadowlore Compilation Seven, which can be accessed as a whole here. The last batch of material I will be releasing in 2020. Just a two-track single this time, with two meaty tracks. The opener, 'Phantoms', is further experimentation with the synth-heavy stuff i've been doing that kind of bounces around between Dungeon Synth and Darkwave and Synthpop, but the second track, 'Absolution', is me bringing both Doom and Blackened elements into the fold in attempt to make one of the darkest atmospheres thus far in the TBF catalog. I'm not going to be pushing the project in a metal direction in any way (nor is what I did here metal), but I figured that seeing as I already showcase a lot of darker elements here and there, why not try and pull from other darker genres as well and see what I end up with after twisting and warping new elements into what I already work with. Enjoy! "MISERY"thebackwardsfuneral.bandcamp.com/album/miseryAs well, I put "Enter the Gates" on Youtube. I'll be putting everything else up over the coming weeks, because I know not everyone likes streaming through Bandcamp.

So this is more of a teaser than anything, but i'm going to be releasing a physical album early next year, so keep a look out for that. Cheers!
