Cool thread, thereβs definitely plenty more on this broad subject. I mostly liked the Spooky Black album but not a fan of the Corbin one really. I'm a huge fan of Lee Hazlewood. Man could write songs

Happy to see Lee Hazlewood here.
Two of the most depressing songs I've encountered:
(really any song off of this album will destroy you)
(one of the all time most depressing albums, imo)

Bleak minimal synth atmospherics with ethereal somber vocals.

Aaaah Discouraged Ones was the album that introduced me to Katatonia back then, good times.. And a great album, top to bottom pure gold, be sure to check out Saw You Drown single which has Quiet World which is great also.. I'd say that Brave Murder Day is much more depressive as I feel it, even decayed maybe.. Both albums are must listen anyway..

I just remembered two very popular songs that are known to bring a tear, "Walking in the Air" from the animated fim The Snowman and Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt". These songs are already very sad but both become even more powerful when watched in the context of the visuals that they accompany and the story behind it, especially "Hurt".

I really enjoyed those. A good mix of dungeonsynth-esque vibes and joyless atmosphere.

Oh fuck ... Eyeless in Gaza is really THE saddest band in the world, and especially with this album (and "Pale hands..." is the darkest, in my opinion). I can't listen to it too often.

This entire album is a gut punch for me. Really raw and honest.
