I admire and pay all respect to the CRPG Addict since for years now he provides a big service to all of us lazy RPGers who have lost their patience a great retrospective to some titles I never got through, checked or even dare to try this day.. Gone are the years when I had time to draw maps or grind endlessly etc. Endless respect to him, he inspired lots of similar blogs..
Some related links, besides CRPG Addict's of course :
The Digitan Antiquarian :
www.filfre.net/ This guy also has a great writing ability, but also does HEAVY and I mean HEAVY research on all games, software houses etc etc., another one who provides a HUGE service to gaming historians! A lot of RPGs and Text Adventures are being scavenged there.. A must!
The Adventure Gamer :
advgamer.blogspot.com/ Inspired by CRPGAddict but this time for Adventures from people I think in the comments section of CRPG Addict blog.. Another must site, this one with multiple reviewers/authors! Totally recommended!!
The Stack :
www.wurb.com/stack/ This guy has one of the oldest gaming reviews blogs and the archive shows, one of the first and still running blogs of this kind, really is worth a lot more readers than it has, also the guy after so many years still's going strong, definitely a person who loves scavenging Video Games..
The RPG Consoler :
allconsolerpgs.blogspot.com/ As the name suggests, inspired by CRPGAddict this guy goes through the console RPGs chronologically , a different beast of course! No that active in latest years but has a good and wide backlog to keep you interested for a good while!
Renga in Blue :
bluerenga.wordpress.com/all-the-adventures/ This one is for fans of early adventuring, another nice archive of reviews, totally recommended as all above!
Super Famicom (SNES) Rpgs :
superfamicomrpgs.blogspot.com/ The name says it all here again, a more recent blog with 2 years of life, this one covers the SNES side, another imho good blog in relevance with the above!
Gaming After 40:
gamingafter40.blogspot.com/ while not that active anymore, it's another great blog I recommend to everyone!!
Be SURE to check out the CRPG Book at
crpgbook.wordpress.com/ ! It's great, was and will be free, but atm since a physical release is imminent he has withdrawn the download links FOR NOW.. STill he will put it back for free download soon as before, definitely a must!
Also, Matt Barton's
www.armchairarcade.com/neo/blog/4 blog and mostly youtube channel is endless treasure of CRPG related stuff!! Also providing a huge service to future gaming historians..!
Some more similar blogs for those who enough is never enough:
inconsolablenung.blogspot.com/crpgadventures.blogspot.com/playedbypanthro.blogspot.com/bestretrogames.blogspot.com/crpgrevisited.blogspot.com/And many many others for other genres and systems, if you want some more be sure to ask and I'll post!!
Also, I almost forgot one of the FINEST resources in gaming,
hg101.kontek.net/articles.htm Hardcore Gaming 101, when you read there about a game you know it's been researched in all systems, history, everything's that needs to be said is said. A GREAT SITE really, should be on the top of my post..
And since I can't stop, one final recommendation for another one who was doing similar chronological playing stuff early on, the Chrontendo guy, you ought to check his chronological scoutings in various consoles of old :
www.youtube.com/user/Chrontendo/videosFinally (really this time) any gamer should check Angry Video Game Nerds reviews at his youtube channel of s$#%y games, especially if you can stomach his toilet-gorefest-retro-etc humor, in any case though the guy is great at handling old BAD BAD games and making a video out of it :
