If I were to be stuck on a desert island with only one band's discography, Dead Can Dance would be up for consideration. It's about as timeless as modern music gets. I'm guessing some of you guys like them as well. What's your favorite Dead Can Dance song?
I'd personally say Xavier.

Tricky - "Ulysses" or "In the Kingdom of the Blind, The One Eyed Are Kings" have to be my faves. While I found DCD early on, I had only gotten a best-of album and not heard any of the actual albums proper. Hearing Ulver's cover of "In The Kingdom...." convinced me to get a copy of The Serpent's Egg, and the rest is history more or less.

I love it that each album has a way different atmosphere. So for each mood or setting, they have an album for it. That is one of the reasons it is one of my favourite bands of all time.
This one is from the first album, which is in my opinion their best one. The mystical guitarsounds, the lyrics, it is perfect.

This one never fails to give me goosebumps. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Dead Can Dance is definitely in my top 10 favorite musical projects ever. Not a single release I don't like. For the sake of this post I'd like to discuss this song, and how haunting the use of glossolalia in the vocals is. It's very eerie and lets the listener assign their own meaning to them.

Xavier is one of my favourites, too. I'd definitely pick The Arcane first though.

Probably Cantara, but I actually like the live version from toward the within even more than the studio one.

I've always held Within the Realm... as my favorite album of theirs overall, but Into the Labyrinth almost overtakes it at so many points. I feel like Labyrinth has some of the highest points in their discography as far as songwriting's concerned, but the one thing holding it back from being the quintessential DCD album for me is that some tracks are noticeably more integral than others; Within the Realm... is a masterpiece through every second of its length.

DCD is awesome. Spleen and Ideal is a good one I don't see mentioned as much.

This song is a standout for me, and amazing how it foreshadows what they would do before just giving up on the idea of being rock and roll.

I've been curious about all of the live recordings the band put out in 2005. There are a couple dozen double-disc releases but they are all ridiculously expensive. Has anyone heard them? And more importantly, are they on the P2Ps? Do you enjoy live recordings in general?

And more importantly, are they on the P2Ps? Do you enjoy live recordings in general? I had acquired a rip of one of these years ago when they came out and found myself returning to it more often than the individual albums. I'm not normally much of a fan of live recordings but that one worked for me.

I seem to no longer be on their mailing list, but around the release of Anastasis, they sent out free downloads to a series of 3 or 4 live EPs from their various reunion tours. Hit or miss, but it was great to hear the band operating live.
I do pretty seriously enjoy about half of the earlier live album Toward the Within - the band sounds incredible, but the song selection weighs a little too heavily toward Brendan Perry's more singer-songwriter-y material which I'm just not as excited about as Lisa's songs, or even his more declamatory stuff like Kingdom of the Blind or Ulysses.

I'm a huge fan of Dead Can Dance, my favourite album has to be the often-overlooked "Spiritchaser". Being pretty obsessed with hypnotic tribal drumming in lots of styles of music, this is the DCD album that resonates with me the most.

One of my most beloved bands. I own everything up to and including Aeon on vinyl. Some of my favorites:
