From the dungeons and the towers of the castles in the sky, built by ants... ... a wall of noise is created, to isolate you from the disgusting noises that surrounds you.
Inside the noise walls a harpsichord is heard, carrying you to other, better worlds.
This album is considered a demo.

Good work, it's an interesting pairing of noise and melodies. I like it.

Good work, it's an interesting pairing of noise and melodies. I like it. Thank you, I'm glad that you liked it. Interesting. I'm curious, why ants? Because ants MAKE dungeons! Also, because I thought Messor Barbarus (a type of ant) was a nice name for a DS project. It inspires barbarism and has a primitive feel. And this name was not taken by any project in any genre. Why? Is it the noise, the melodies, or both? The melodies at least are not intended to be disturbing.

.....yes, I mean the distorted background drone (which I suppose to be the ants' noise) combined with the creepy, videogamey melodies. And yes, I thought it all was intended to be disturbing! Am I wrong?

Here is what I posted on facebook: I'm adding this description to the bandcamp page as well.
.....yes, I mean the distorted background drone (which I suppose to be the ants' noise) combined with the creepy, videogamey melodies. And yes, I thought it all was intended to be disturbing! Am I wrong? So the noise is thought to be an insulating element, but I see why some of you are seeing it as creepy (you are not the only one that said it). It's not creepy for me but maybe that's because I'm used to noise and harsh sounding music. For the next one I'll work on the noise to make it less disturbing. About the melodies: Track 1 is supposed to be naive-sounding, kinda happy but with something uneasy underlying; track 3 is supposed to be intriguing, mysterious and a bit scary in the end; track 5... I see that one as crazy and more experimental than the others, it can get creepy; track 6 is intended to be nostalgic; track 7 is intended to be hopeful;
and track 2 and 4 are more open to interpretation, I'd say they are more neutral and neoclassical sounding, but I might be wrong.
So yeah, I can see why the melodies can be seen as creepy in half of the album, but it was not intended as the dominant feeling.
One of the reasons I started this project was to make music I could fell asleep to. Inspiration came one night, at a time when I was going through very stressful days and suffered a bit from insomnia, so that night I tried to fall asleep while listening to Fief's II on headphones. While it was nice music, between the notes I could hear outside noises that made me nervous or that even awoke me after falling asleep for a short while. I knew Ranseur but the noise was not loud enough (and the music was not so pleasant at times) and other dungeon noise projects were mostly dark and disturbing as hell. So I decided to start my own project. It was only later when I decided to use a harpsichord, so in future albums I might be using other instruments. Also, while composing it, it became darker than what I expected, but it still worked for me. I didn't have the same level of anxiety, but still I could fall asleep to this album and didn't have nightmares.
So this is why I reacted when you said that it was quite disturbing. Still, I like that my music is open to different interpretations, and it's good to hear opinions from people like you that have a different view.

This is cool man. The idea of doing sleep related dungeon noise had occurred to me because I've slept to hnw before, but I never got around to making it, wasn't sure if I could pull it off. But I think it would be interesting if you kept refining your take on this thing. Pretty strong debut. I don't think it's really that creepy either.

I listened to your album earlier today messorbarbarus(and overlooking/overremembering this thread I've already seen), I second, actually I echo exactly stormcrows thoughts of the background noise sounding somehow disturbing in the background really, at least from my own non noise music background/listener point of view... Maybe because I also thought of it being the sound of ants, based on the cover most of all.. I 'd really liked if instead of this tense noise was a shrieky more oldschool fading in and out ancient like sound with the melodies you had because I really really wanted to pay attention to them but it seemed very hard to go through this again.. Again, I'm not at all into noise and mostly not into Dungeon Noise with some great exceptions like Ranseur's stuff and couple of others...
Keep us updated mate and keep on with your stuff, I found it very unique, I think noise inclined DSceners will certainly enjoy..
