Post your atmospheric black metal recommendations here! Try to avoid the usual so people can discover something new. Post the artist's name and name of an album you recommend with song previews (and anything else you find relevant of course)
Bekëth Nexëhmü - De Glömdas Ursjälar
HERMÓÐR - The Howling Mountains
Bròn - Ànrach
Kalmankantaja - Musta Lampi

Great idea!
So, a few favorites of mine lately:
Wędrujący Wiatr - Wołanie Z Granitowych Twierdz: Atmospheric black metal very reminiscent of Drudkh. Achingly beautiful music that stirs deep in your heart, no other way I can put it. A sense of sorrowful pride.
Grima - The Beginning: I don't see Grima get very much attention, which confuses me. They've got everything one could want in atmospheric black metal. Seriously, if you haven't heard them, check it out!
Nhor - The Temple of Growth & Glimmer Ascends: Breathtaking piano work combined with atmospheric black metal. Yet another project I'm surprised I never hear about. He also posts tons of great pictures on his Facebook, I think they're all taken by himself but I could be wrong.

HERMÓÐR <3
I know Autumn is already over, but this Autumn's Kingdom is perfect for that atmosphere. Love the riffs and the melancholic sound.
And I think many of you remember the dsbm project Coldworld, this year he had released a new album. And it is more into the atmospheric/post black vibes.

IMO, Walknut from Russia made one of the best albums in this genre certainly - listen ASAP if you havent ever heard it!!

Walknut is pretty heavy when it comes to their riffs. Somehow I enjoyed it a lot when playing the old Rollercoaster Tycoon game.

There are so many amazing bands in this genre, I don't know where to begin! One of my favourite albums is Les Larmes du Tyran by Noktiis Eterna. I love it when the keys kick in towards the end of this track.

Eneferens - In The Hours Beneath: I recently discovered this new one-man project, which has released two quality works last year.

Kataxu - In My Dungeon! is one of the best pieces of symphonic black metal I've heard. This is more comparable to Dimmu Borgir's Spiritual Black Dimensions for example, than to the type of melodic/ambient black metal that's 'popular' nowadays. It's utterly drenched in 'astral' keyboard melodies and never has a dull or repeating moment in it's 13+ minutes (!), which is very long for this type of black metal. The whole album 'Hunger of Elements' is great btw...

The whole album 'Hunger of Elements' is great btw... Fantastic album; The Manifesto of the Unity is a personal favorite of mine. EVILFEAST - WINTERMOON ENCHANTMENTI'd say Evilfeast is one of the best projects in the subgenre right now, at least outside of those playing the Summoning style. Evilfeast always manages to reconcile the "atmospheric" and the "black metal" aspects of the sound just right, and neither one or the other is lacking as is so often the case with bands in the genre. Wintermoon Enchantment is my preferred album of his, and there's not a moment on it that isn't radiating its lunar inspirations. Stunningly beautiful and grim. VORDVEN - TOWARDS THE FROZEN STREAMOn the other side of things, Vordven's sound veers far more towards the melodic; there's actually a very "warm" sense of melody throughout, although this doesn't detract from the atmospheric factor. Massive keyboards along more energetic riffing make this one an oddly comforting listen, and that's not to mention the clean vocals (both male and female!).

Literally anything by Paysage d'Hiver in case anyone missed it. Winterkalte and Das Tor demos are highly recommended.
Does amazing work creating winter landscapes.
The Lost Sun Atmo-Black with a space feel.
Murmuure Psychodelic ambient black metal. Regardless of featuring ambient parts it hardly can go as an ambience sounscape - album rather performs a stress-test of your mental stability. Still, it is not a generic avantgarde stuff which tries to blow your mind being as motley as possible, but a solid sick mesmerizing music. Woths a shot

Forgotten Deity - Freezing Wind
Atmospheric black metal with a very loooong dungeon synth intro ! I made the intros, all the synths and vocals. Nyar from Ravendark (PL) recorded guitars.

IMO, Walknut from Russia made one of the best albums in this genre certainly - listen ASAP if you havent ever heard it!! Walknut rules. I wish there was more but then again if there was, would it be on the same level? I fear not. Evilfeast is also always good. Ok, most of the time. Wędrujący Wiatr posted by Verminaard has been on my check-this-out-ASAP list forever (which is a sad testimony how ASAP things are around here) which makes me wonder if I've actually have already gotten acquinted with them during some beer-drenched eve? At least this track sounds promising and the Drudkh namedrop is not off the mark. Autumn's Kingdom sounds really nice too, I need to try to remember this one. I would not really call it very depressive based on this song, melancholic sure but not the sort of weltering in grief type misery. I'll drop a few oldies here, I don't know if these are too obvious though, at least this one should be quite well known and it's an old favourite: Sacrilegium - Tam gdzie gaśnie dzieńNorwegian. Kvist rules and is probably a poor choice as it's well known. Kvist - For kunst maa vi evig vikeGotta do a Finnish one, slightly more obscure? Darkstyle - Cold Charisma Tallenna

Paysage d'Hiver does some excellent stuff. Kerker is lo-fi black metal album with tortured dungeon atmospherics. Howling echoes, scraping chains, despair. This one came to mind while reading the Dungeon Noise thread. Die Festung is a spacey, crystalline winter synth album. More Paysage D'Hiver playlists...

(I thought we had a post-black metal thread as well, but since this is close to atmospheric BM I post it here)
Pillorian - Obsidian Arc
Many of you are aware of the band Agalloch, and perhaps that they broke up a while ago too. There is good news, the singer/guitarist John Haughm from Agalloch started this band/project with members of other bands (Stephen Parker from Maestus andArkhum)/Trevor Matthews from Uada andInfernus). I have listened to their debut album today and I am pretty exited about it. It reminds me a bit of old Agalloch from time to time, but a bit gloomier/doomisher. Unfortunate I have to miss them on Roadburn, they play on the last day, and I was stupid enough to only buy the ticket for the first 3 days. I am going to miss Ulver as well, ugh.
