I know that to some point the terms "uprising" and "Dungeon Synth" may seem to contradict themselves, Maybe "adventurous" would be a more fitting term, I don't know. This doesn't has to go hand in hand with just being bombastic. Bombastic does not automatically equals uprising. I don't really have that many examples but some of RævJÀger's music comes quite close to what I mean. Even better suited for what I am speaking of would be these intros from Bal Sagoth. Well, maybe you disagree and wouldn't label this as Dungeon Synth as it kind of lacks the normally gloomy atmosphere evoked by classic Dungeon Synth. But still... If so - is there a fitting genre this may be put under. And what examples for this kind of music do you have? Let's discuss Here's also a second one being more epic and less, well, "positive":

if you mean "heroic" or "soundtrack" atmospheres, I can suggest you to give a listen to Morketsvind, especially his latest release "Saga of Blood Lands". The "Kolarbyn" album by Taur Nu Fuin also worths more than a listening: in particular, the opening track is -as you said- really uprising without being bombastic. Plus, I'm turning into self-promotion mode and invite you to check my earliest stuff as Sidereal Fortress: you will find what your looking for in both the "Ruins" and "The Forgotten Tomb of Yshnak" albums. Maybe I'll go back to that sound with my next album? Who knows?

just yesterday I put your "The Forgotten Tomb of Yshnak" album on my bandcamp wishlist thanks man! enjoy! Doing it right now The last part of "At The Boundaries Of Time" just plays and I esp. liked that. So, I'm stoked for what's to come. Oh, and very great to use the AD&D font. I love those little nods to past rpg greatness!

Ah man so much respect for posting some instrumentals and epic - DS relevant stuff from the good old great Bal-Sagoth.. I posted before about them, I think anyone should check out their full discography, probably just skipping their first album ( A Black Moon..), which itself could be very interesting to those liking some more raw stuff... I approve 110% of Bal-Sagoth ... Must check for all here I believe..

They are one of my fave bands and I just love the pulp epicness they cover with all their music and lyrical concept.

Am I the only one who has good thoughts about "A black moon broods over Lemuria"? π

Am I the only one who has good thoughts about "A black moon broods over Lemuria"? π No, it's def. a great album but to me the other BS albums are just greater Btw - I did a shirt backprint artwork (soon to be featured on a new BS shirt) based on a lyric part of "The Ravening". Have a look here:

Bombastic, heroic and epic is as much DS to me as gloomy and dark or easy listening and idilic. Medieval touch defines it for me.

Medieval touch defines it for me. Though to me the "classic" DS approach is basically more a gloomy, melancholic one I know what you mean, yes. Besides that: do you have some recommendations for heroic, adventure-indcing DS?

Dungeon Synth isn't upbeat and happy. Those traits are antithetical to Dungeon Synth. Symphonic music played with synthesizers doesn't automatically qualify as Dungeon Synth.

Dungeon Synth isn't upbeat and happy. Those traits are antithetical to Dungeon Synth. Symphonic music played with synthesizers doesn't automatically qualify as Dungeon Synth. That's what I meant with my "classic DS" term. Since the genre "explosion" a few years ago there is so much around and labelled as DS which it - if being strict - couldn't really be called that way. But well... I don't really (that much) mind what is and what is not DS by some form of definition. Sure a genre name should be in some form of borders though. Anyway - apart from all that: if we don't call the more heroic, light, adventurous DS could you then point me towards "uprising fantasy synthesizer music" then?
