Which is your favourite one? And which is your favourite soundtrack?
Symphony of the Night doesn't count, we all love that one.
My favourite one would be Order of Ecclesia because of the glyph system and the difficulty, and my favourite soundtrack as of lately is Portrait of Ruin. It's just too epic, with tracks such as Crucifix Held Close, Iron Blue Intention and Gaze Up At The Darkness

Symphony of the Night is obviously by far the best, after that I would say it's a toss-up between Castlevania IV and Castlevania II.
Did anybody else watch the Netflix anime series? If so, what did you think?

If so, what did you think? I still have to watch the last two episodes so no spoilers please, but so far I've been digging it a lot. The downside is that the pacing is quite slow for what one would expect, but still the atmosphere and characters are great, I feel as the series is influenced by palace intrigues such as the ones in Game of Thrones and so.

I also felt that the pacing was far too slow, and I didn't really care for the palace intrigue. It seemed like a very odd choice to me. The premise of Castlevania is actually extremely straightforward - burst into Dracula's castle, kill tons of monsters, steal the treasures and kill Dracula. NOT non-stop debate, discussion and political backstabbing. I mean, seriously... when you think of Castlevania, do you think of dialogue?
The action sequences were pretty cool, but I found the rest of it uninteresting.
I think that they must have had a somewhat limited budget for the show, and couldn't afford to fill the entire thing with action and gore. So, they used up the remainder of the time slot with character drama and intrigue (with limited animation). In my opinion, it would have functioned much better as a short miniseries, with fewer, shorter episodes. Action/adventure shorts mixed with some character development, rather than the long-format saga. Still, I did enjoy it overall.

The last two episodes are really good, though. I won't say any more, but I think you will enjoy them.

Oh yeah, it also seemed like an odd choice to me, but dunno, I quite liked it because in trying to "humanize" the characters more, the conflict seemed more intereseting rather than just typical good vs evil. Still I was hoping for more enemies based on the ones in the games and some soundtrack out of them too

Btw what's the policy on double posts? because it seems you can't quote more than one user in the same reply

I don't think there is a policy on double posts, as long as the content is valuable I think it's fine.

Kind of left-field, but my personal favorite is Circle of the Moon on GBA. I don't have a solid reason why since it's truly not that different from many others in the series save for the character and the whole card power dynamic (which has an awfully exploitable bug where you only really need like two cards to technically use all of them), but it's one I really enjoyed. The level design is pretty good and the backtracking isn't that confusing. Castlevania Chronicles was also really good. In terms of the 'classics', I would have to say the Dracula's Curse stands out the most. I really liked the character switching component.
I liked the anime just fine. Good voice acting, well drawn, interesting characters. They could easily make another focusing on a different Belmont, and I hope they do.
Desrealización, you can post multiple quotes in the same post if you create a new tab when you quote someone, copy the text from the BBcode tab of the reply box, and then paste that back into the BBcode tab of whatever you're using as your main reply form. Tagging people with the @ symbol also works if you don't want to do the tab thing. There's no rule against double posting, but it may clog up the thread if you do 6 in a row

The card system looked interesting tbh.

It’s been a long time but I remember playing I & II back in the day. I’ve got the Moonshake vinyl and II & IV are probably my favorite soundtracks.

I need to spend some time playing more Castlevania titles but right now I'm trogging along through Rondo of Blood and enjoying it a lot. I plan to revisit SoTN soon and want to check out the 3D titles eventually as well. Did anyone else see that "classics collection" that Konami is putting out with 8 of the games? I might pick that up since it's only $20 if only to entertain the idea that more Castlevania games might be down the pipeline.

If there are some kool features to that collection that aren't available via emulation I'll probably pick it up, but if it's just the basic games then I'll pass. The Kid Dracula port doesn't really draw me since I've already played the fan-translation (wonder if they used the same rom). If you're wanting to actually pick up some of the 3D ones, you should skip the first N64 game cartridge and just get Legacy of Darkness since it unlocks the first game in its entirety once you beat it.
Super excited for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Haven't played Curse of the Moon, though. Will have to get around to that soon.

In terms of the 'classics', I would have to say the Dracula's Curse stands out the most. I really liked the character switching component. Have you played the original Japanese version Akumajou Densetsu? If you haven't you definitely should give it a go. The western version is significantly worse. So much worse that I wouldn't recommend bothering with it at all if you can get your hands on the original to be honest. The original soundtrack with the three sound channels that are missing from the western release is amazing. There's a big problem with these games utilizing the "super chip" for sound because western NES lacks the pins needed to load those three additional channels from the cartridge. That's why Mr. Gimmick's European soundtrack is pretty terrible even when the original is amazing for example. At least they rearranged the soundtrack for Castlevania III so the compositions work without the chip even if it's a bit underwhelming after hearing the original one.
