And because Candlemass is absolutely one of the best and most mystical/powerful bands of all time, this one gets it's own separate post!
Part I
Time stands still in these ancient halls
Only the castle itself can tell what it keeps
Dark are the secrets between these walls
hidden in shadows of death, while the sorcerer sleeps
Where is the morning
where is the sun
Thousand years of midnight
the sunrise is gone
An old man marked by a life so long
Is sleeping so sweet while his magic is growing so strong
Waiting still for new times to come
a thousands years to see if he has won
Where is the morning
where is the sun
A thousand years of midnight
the sunrise is gone
Part II
What has he done ?
Why is he sleeping so long ?
He wants to live for evermore
Soon is he young
When will he open his eyes ?
When he is strong enough to rule
Back in our time goes the legend
of a sorcerer so old
He drank the blood of the virgin to be reborn
Soon a tyrant will conquer
So spoke the wise
of the day when the sorcerer will rise
Blood is his wine
The sorcerer is cheating on time
and he'll be stronger than before
Cursed be the sun
the women will weep for his fun
In the name of his magic so strong
Back in our time goes the legend
of a sorcerer so old
He drank the blood of the virgin to be reborn
Soon a tyrant will conquer
So spoke the wise
of the day when the sorcerer will rise
Part III
A thousand years have gone
Armageddon hasn't come
Only the cry of a child, echoes in the dark
Backwards goes time
as the stars are passing by
and nothing remains of this foolish man except his fate

Oh man, A Sorcerer's Pledge is one of my favorite songs of all time. That whole album is magnificent, and that's definitely not my kind of music. Have you seen this live version of that track?:

Have you seen this live version of that track?: Yes, stunning! If you like Candlemass, I highly suggest listening to the Pagan Altar album "Mythical and Magical". Musically it's much different, but it always carried a similar mystical feeling. The music was actually written in the early 80's (before Epicus Doomicus Metallicus) but Pagan Altar didn't record it until the 2000's.

Maybe I need to give Candlemass another shot. I've always been really put off by the vocals and find the music to be kind of boring a lot of the time. On the other hand though, I LOVE Pagan Altar and they are one of my favorite bands.

You find issue with Candlemass' VOCALS? Whaaaaaaat? I kid of course, that's just very surprising to me as many consider them to be the highlight of the band.
Also, how the fuck did I not see this thread?
Starting out with some Grey Wolf -- absolutely incredible vocals here in my opinion. And look at that album cover!

Candlemass have a lot of crap albums for sure but Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Nightfall, Ancient Dreams and Tales of Creation are all some of my favorite albums ever youtu.be/7mJH6Mw8FCg

I kind of have to agree with outofseason. The only album I like is Epicus Doomicus Metallicus because Johan Lanquist's vocals really are what make it work, the other guy's singing is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Andrew, have you checked out this era of Candlemass? If you don't like the operatic vocals in Candlemass, maybe you'll like this. Also, check out the synth in this song!

Don't forget their contemporary stuff, it's pretty solid as well.

Some great stuff on this thread! This is one I've always liked. It's not Candlemass, but it'll do fine!

Real jealous because my two baby brothers went and saw pagan altar without me and now they're no more. I think of them more as doom though but who cares, everyone should check them out.
