Does anyone happen to have a vinyl rip from Depressive Silence? The sound quality is so much better on the vinyl, and like most of you I've had a tape rip on MP3 all of this time. I'd like to have better quality MP3's to listen to in the car/headphones at work etc. Unfortunately I don't have one of those awesome vinyl to USB record players.

I just received my copy today, great stuff. The guy from the label said they'll be doing a digital version soon, so I think your best bet is wait for that.

Thanks! I will just grab the digital version once that's available.

random thoughts about this release: Kind of surprising to me that the record is still widely available with only 300 copies made and being out for a while now... I thought it would have sold out already.
Really makes you realize how few people around the world really are into this kind of music, when a label has a hard time selling just 300 of a release by one of the most revered artists in the genre of all time.
I wonder if it is just the format choice that was problematic for some, in that they would prefer a CD or tape.... DS on vinyl is kind of uncharted territory for the most part compared to other formats.

Tapes and CDs are just easier. I've heard from a pretty reliable source that TDG is doing tape versions of the old DS stuff, so I'm waiting out for that, though I haven't asked them about it. I did pick up the Old Tower LP, however.

DS on vinyl is kind of uncharted territory for the most part compared to other formats. After direct communication (a few weeks back) with Unborn to arrange a second distribution order of the LP, I was informed that the pressing of 300 was down to approximately 20 copies remaining, not counting the second round of copies imported for US mail order. I agree that the format may be somewhat restrictive to some for reasons listed above, and I think a fair amount of US dungeon dwellers simply don't want to "risk" ordering vinyl from overseas. All copies placed in the Lighten Up shop disappeared within 48 hrs each time. I personally think the remastered vinyl edition sounds incredible and it's gotten steadily repeated play around the homestead since release. Cassettes through TDG would be fantastic news, it would certainly let more people hear and appreciate the work. I love both the vinyl and cassette formats, but I hear what you're saying that the scene may not be completely on board for more expensive vinyl editions, even from such legendary artists. It is still a relatively small scene worldwide and at least to me still feels pretty firmly rooted in underground cassette culture. I'm stoked to check out the new Old Tower LP, there are several classic and contemporary projects for whom I would be excited to see get the vinyl treatment. I guess I would consider having a run of 300 copies be mostly gone in a just a few months to be a successful public reception.

Yeah I didnt think of that, but that makes sense in terms of ordering vinyl from overseas could be an issue too for a lot of people; its both an expensive and a fragile item simultaneously. Seems like it could have affected the sales a bit, especially from an audience that is more used to just buying tape or CD which is usually much cheaper item and less chance of breaking or being damaged in the mail (from my experiences anyways). And very cool to hear you had such good reception to the copies available in the US, that gives me some added hope for other successful vinyl releases - will be interested to see if some happen domestically for a similar artist what the reception would be like!

Do you not think that maybe the fact that it hasn't received as much attention as expected is partly down to the title and artwork being completely different from the original release?

I grabbed it up. I have not quite jumped onto the vinyl boat yet, so unfortunately that is a restriction for me in some areas. I was happy to see some Depressive Silence out on CD as I prefer that format to tape. But I'd grab a tape as well as a disc of the Mourning stuff, if it came to that.

Got news of the Depressive Silence tapes: very likely not happening anymore. Too bad. Better grab what vinyl and CDs you can. Only two more Depressive Silence releases left to be released. I'd bet at least one will be re-released this year, probably the Mightiest split if I had to pick.

I keep chickening out of getting an original, I know they're going to be like gold dust in a few years but £70 seems like so much to spend on a tape.

If they reissue the split, I hope they put the two synth tracks by Mightiest on it.

I didn't ask him further, but at the rate things are being re-released I'm sure someone will put them out.

DS on vinyl is kind of uncharted territory for the most part compared to other formats. The vinyl format is exactly the reason I did not buy it after a long consideration. I just don't like the format, it's clumsy, impractical, too expensive and thanks to black metal community feels trendy. I don't really like tapes either, to be honest, I just can't trust them. I've had more than enough experience with dubs running at wrong speed, having all sorts of errors on them, tapes wearing out or just outright breaking and so on that it surely outweighs any nostalgia factor cassette format has. I suppose it's different especially for younger people who see some sort of "authenticity" to it. Though if I must, I get cassettes seeing that I don't even have a vinyl player. I'll get the digital version for sure, like comrade shadowcloak. TallennaTallenna
