I have little knowledge of the genre, I really love some of the albums though. Burzum Hlidskjalf for example is I think my favourite so far. Of course, there are lots of facets of that genre, especially now as it became somewhat more popular. Something similiar I get from Casket of Dreams old release. It's some kind of slightly magical, eerie, maybe even slightly evil factor. Does someone know some similiar releases? I must add that I usually don't like 'the sound of the dungeon, or a crypt', I usually prefer 'the sound of a forest'if that makes sense. I don't know what it is, the instruments used or just the general vibe, but I really enjoy these two.

I always thought of Hliðskjálf as having a pretty unique sound, more spiritual and less fantasy, which I think "more forest and less dungeon" would have a similar meaning. I'm sure there are a lot of artists that explore this sound nowadays, but the two I've encountered that stick out in my mind of really capturing this same mood and moving it forward are Foglord and Iamí. Cavernas do Inconsciente in particular I would recommend, a real underrated classic with a uniquely organic flowing structure and a strong atmosphere of solemnity. Nest is also worth checking out for a very focused forest atmosphere, though strays from traditional DS more into soundtrack territory imo.

Thanks for the answers, I will listen to what you guys mentioned. Spiritual might be a good word to describe it, yes. I've known about Nest for some time, and although it seems interesting I never cared for their music, maybe I will give it another chance in the future. There are other albums that I could list here, but they are outside DS. What comes to mind right now is Tiamat Wildhoney, some Blut Aus Nord older albums, Negura Bunget Om (that one has a great, dark, evil nature vibe)...

It's tough to actually nail down with suggestions based on specific reqs, but I think Foglord was a good recommendation that you were given.. And while it should be easy to think of many DS with a dark-evil-forest theme it's hard in reality.. I couldn't .. The difficult part is the "evil" because for some it might be some screeching vocals while for others it could be a very dense atmosphere but I think people hesitate sometimes to recommend stuff under specific guidelines, I do I'm afraid.. BUT, on the metal front and since you put it up, the first thing I thought with these description would be the very good and cult "Through Chasms, Caves and Titan Woods" by Carpathian Forest (don't bother with rest of their discography though).. It is a solid album in that kind of old BM, raw, evil sounding which I think DS fans can also appreciate for the atmosphere..

andrewwerdna Thank you for your recommendation of Cavernas do Inconsciente. I've listened to it a couple of times, it has a great atmosphere. It is very patient and meditative music. I like the theme very much! crystallogic13 Thank you. I might have heard that EP before, solid BM release, but it's not what I'm after right now Foglord, wow, it seems great, and overwhelming... I will need more time to listen Thanks guys!

andrewwerdna Thank you for your recommendation of Cavernas do Inconsciente. I've listened to it a couple of times, it has a great atmosphere. It is very patient and meditative music. I like the theme very much! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. The guy behind that, Rômulo, had another project called Altar with only one release in 2017 before he completely left dungeon synth behind. He had a big role in the early Facebook group. Was he the main moderator? Was he the one who started the group? I don't remember and maybe just was never fully in the loop with that stuff, but it definitely seemed like there was chaos when he left. He was really cool though, would be nice to see him return someday. Anyways, Altar - Ancestral is really good too and definitely worth checking out: altar-br.bandcamp.com/album/ancestral
