For the last 4 years or so, I've actually been working on my nr. 1 childhood dream to become true: my very own game. I have a brief history of creating some simple alternative-based text adventures in
QBasic back in the MS-DOS era, but sadly I never got further than that. However, the interest and passion remained throughout the years, up to a point where I discovered
Godot game engine and finally got my own thing up and rollin'. By the time of writing this, I'm already having all music and graphics finished and ready for the 1st game, the story is complete as well (+ got plenty of ideas & notes written down for sequels) and at the moment I'm half-way through building up the remaining levels and puzzles. The game itself is already fully playable as far as the content goes, but unfortunately no official demo version available at the moment. I consider the development being "too far" now for cutting any sensible half-way versions off from it, thus I'll rather work on getting the final game done and polished before sharing it in public. =)
Ideas/features/style/etc.:
- an old-school space adventure, PC platform
- top-down view, 2D game world divided to 20 levels in total
- narrative heavy, plenty of reading
- each level has a special puzzle to be solved for completion
- every level has a hidden "achievement" for failing in a particular manner
- game saves on every level completion
- once completed, every level can be replayed for further exploration or missed achievement
- rich item management/inventory system
- characters & additional art all pre-rendered in the early 90's style (I've used
POV-Ray since '93 and still utilizing it)
- keyboard only: arrow keys to move the player character, write commands to execute actions (not a true parser though)
- subtle DOS era geek humor, sci-fi and game references, a lot of "technobabble"
- retroish synth soundtrack
*- no graphic violence, no foul language, no timed events, no hard action; there's too much of all that elsewhere already
- a calm-paced puzzler/exploration game for us older farts =D
*) Soundtracks I've created so far.
