I very much like this thread. I've always been interested in the more whimsical side of DS before there were even artists devoted solely to the making of that style, but i'm very glad they exist now! Not to say that i don't equally love the dark. The Algiz Dawn tape is the only one I think wasn't already mentioned in this thread that I definitely think fits here. algizdawn.bandcamp.com/releasesAgain, before I even knew other artists were pursuing the same whimsicality in their work, I had tried harboring the sentiments in my own project which i think was relatively realized on the Apothecarium "Demo II" (maybe not so much on the Blood Tower split because there's some darker work on there)

The very whimsical and comfy dungeon synth styles are super appealing to me. I've been a big fan of the usual "comfy tavern"/"sitting by a fire" sort of medieval sounds for a long time, and to be honest I think that sort of thing fits very well into the broader dungeon synth universe despite the black metal origins. Dungeon synth has evolved into its own world and really has the freedom to branch out into any sort of olden fantasy feeling. And it should do so! I don't always want to feel like a grim and haunted wanderer when I listen to DS, though that's always nice. Sometimes I'm looking for the idyllic and cottage-y feeling.
Also, "cottage synth" is an awesome term!
