I'm slowly being converted to the FM camp I think. There's a sort of synthetic purity to the sound that I just love. The FM stuff is so cool, I kind of want to get one.

Pretty sweet for a box that looks like it could be Patrick Bateman's answering machine... Wow, very cool sound.

The pss 580 demo track's beginning is very DS by itself. Was it composed by Burzum?

Oddly enough I've encountered that with a number of synth demos. I don't think it's because these people are consciously emulating DS, but rather that the DS sound is just something that can naturally come out of certain machines, like you'll adjust your playing style to suit the instrument. Does the musician play the synth or does the synth play the musician?! Here's one that sounds like straight-up classic dungeon synth to me:

yes, it's very DS. Probably they just want to sound "EPIC" in those demos, and it's pretty what most DS is about

What a great modular synth. But it's a pity there is too much talk I intended to start a new thread about the Zynthian project, but I think this thread will be the best for it. zynthian.org/It's an open source synthesizer, using a raspberry pi board. You can buy some kits or prebuild box there: discourse.zynthian.org/t/zynthian-kits/150It's 250 € for one kit with aluminium case (you have to solder elements on PCB, but it looks easy), or 300 € for a complete box (prebuilt). It's only a "virtual" synth (like most digital professional synth btw), it's not analogic and such, but it sounds great (there is a good built in DAC module), is expendable, and there is my beloved Dexed in it So I'm still thinking about ordering one. On the other hand for a little higher I could afford a more "genuise" synth I don't have access to from my main computer. So I don't know yet. Having good open source synth in one box could be useful as well.

I absolutely love this! I was listening to Tangerine Dream before putting this on & later totally forgot I'd switched!

I'm very pumped about the newest member of my family. There's a feature to combine different voices to "customize your sound." Lovely MS-DOS sound:

Seriously, Goodwill is so great for DS keyboards. Seems like every time I go I find a 90's Casio or Yamaha for like $30. Nobody else appreciates that sound these days so they're always available and dirt cheap. The sound of these things is perfect for DS.

The other week I picked up a Yamaha PSR-12. Dude was asking $50...very easily talked him to $15! Previously I'd been worried these sorts of keyboards had become rare after all the circuit-bending, casiotone, and pseudo-retro stuff in the late 2000s.

I guess the XV-5080 is like the culmination of the Roland JV series. "64MB of internal wave memory gives 1083 waveforms (including all JV-2080 sounds and waveforms and 112 waveforms from the JD-990)." Seems like the ultimate DS machine. If I didn't already have more synth stuff than I know what to do with I'd definitely get one.

Has anyone used iOS versions of the Korg vsts? Those seem to be on sale right now (while the Legacy collection proper VSTs are not), and I'm curious to try one...

I have the Korg collection on windows but i rarely use it. I discovered the Supersonico VST synth instead, a great cheap instrument which sounds pretty vintage and it's easy to use. I recommend it! I will surely use it for my next album which will be out (I hope) on april 2018 through an Italian record label. Stand-alone version is for free: solcitomusica.blogspot.it/p/virtuales.html?m=1
