No, Avernum is not hardcore at all (I'm a pure casual gamer). You can even cheat ! But it's verrrry long with tons of contents. Which is cool but can be confusing.

Morrowind is such a great game, probably my favourite game ever!
I'm replaying Fallout: New Vegas. Never finished it on the PS3, so now I'm giving it a try on the PC.

There's a bunch of really cool mods for that game. I remember one that allowed you to create your own settlement from scratch. Slowly building cabins, citerns, watchtowers, and so on ...

I guess they took that idea to Fallout 4. Didn't much care for that... Morrowind and the Fallouts have the same charm for me: exploring the world, littered with crumbs of information and side stories that make it all come alive.

Did you also play Fallout 1 & 2 ? They're my favourites. Far darker and politically incorrect.

Yeah, I played them... was quite young when they first came out and didn't really get into them then. I've been giving them a try every now and then as an adult, but they haven't really gripped me ever.

The first two Fallouts were so different than the other ones, they are almost like other games. The first two were so much fun to play. But I have to admit, Fallout New Vegas is cool too, and I love modding it. I tried Fallout 4, but wow, it feels so empty and they removed almost all RPG elements from it. Felt more like an open world shooter or something, it was very different.
In the past few weeks I have been playing a lot of Cities Skylines and the new Divinity Original Sin 2. The last one is so much fun, I feel like the story is better than in the first Original Sin game, and the combat stays fun. Especially when having a necromancer/summoner in the party.

Yes, the "classic" RPG element is even less in Fallout 4 than it was in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But F3 -> NV -> F4 is a pretty logical progression towards shooter-oriented action IMO. I did like Fallout 4 quite a lot, it starts feeling a lot less empty when you get a bit into the game, and there story is pretty cool. I also like how they overhauled VATS to not pausing the game but instead slowing it to a crawl, so you didn't get to plan your strategy endlessly.
Cities Skylines is one of my go-to games, one I always return to! It's so relaxing and fun, I love tweaking and optimizing the road network of huge metropolises.

Just started playing Crusader Kings II, and even though I don't really know what I'm doing yet, this game seems like it will be excellent. The music is a little annoying, but I bet the game will pair great with DS.

just unearthed my old Nintendo DS and started probably my fifth run of Chrono Trigger a week or two ago. Been savoring it a bit this time (not entirely by choice - I've been pretty swamped in the last few months). The game mechanics are still among the best of that era of SNES RPGs (topped only by FFVI) and the story is still of a mindblowing quality even though I remember most of the major events.

emerge, this is awesome. I've beaten this game quite a few times, but it's been years now. I wonder if I can remember everything. Hope this comes to GOG eventually, I hate buying DRM games (at least non-console games). Speaking of remakes, the Unity engine remake of Daggerfall now has a fully playable story line, so you can go through the whole main quest line within a 3d environment more like Morrowind. This was the biggest feat in the remaster, so what's left to complete will be much faster. Haven't tried it out in a while, but I'll definitely be playing this a lot once its totally finished (side quests are essential). www.dfworkshop.net/

Thanks for the tip. Built a Retropie emulation console yesterday and it's unbelievably worthwhile. Going to sell some old systems to minimize space. I must have close to 1,000 roms on it. This will probably be the death of me.
