Love this one, very much has a "dungeon synth" sound to it, I often listen to the tape.

Sombre Printemps - Nude With A Cross (1991)
From the album "Ambient And Film Music" on the Danceteria label. Sombre Printemps was a side project of Phillipe Fichot of the French industrial band Die Form.
Around 0:45 after the distorted vocal intro, this had a distinct dungeon synth or neo-folk vibe.

I like that.
Also, listening to that Phil Thornton - Edge of Dreams album right now and it's really great. Seems like that "Dolphin Synth Cult" youtube channel has a lot of interesting stuff to check out.

This has to be the most direct example I’ve heard of anything fitting the “dark ambient” descriptor. Very reserved but still fairly dense with sounds, I’ll have to check out the rest of the comp. Drexciya definitely had 0 influence on any early dungeon music, but it’s the project that got me interested in electronic music in the first place. Every release chronicles lore of the kingdom of Drexciya, an undersea civilization founded by African slaves thrown overboard on the trip to the Americas. The focus on world building and conceptual continuity puts it in the same category as Dungeon Synth for me. Plus every song is a banger.

Very varied and experimental catalog, with a unique mythology. Nice observation on their world building, that connects to DS on a conceptual level. They had some ambient intro/outro tracks too, this one for instance:

Very inspiring to consider that Morthond track and Welcome to Drexciya as two expressions of ambient music, just sounds to conjure a space.

Don't feel any DS vibes from that personally but damn that is a catchy funky austere lofi groove. Might have to look into the world-building behind that you mentioned, that sounds pretty interesting.

fast forward to 9:07. Jeff Goldblum walking around a graveyard and abandoned town while minor 80s atmospheric synth music plays is what everyone needs.

I saw on reddit ( www.reddit.com/r/DungeonSynth/comments/x9qi96/latest_dimension_door_archived_on_nts_all_proto/ ) someone took the time to compile a proto DS playlist in his podcast, check it out if you haven't already, includes stuff mentioned here so it certainly has a curated selection of a playlist ! Good on whoever has the podcast, sometimes I think a thread with all DS podcasts, blogposts etc etc would really be helpful for all of us (new and old members), lots of posts/podcasts/stuff going on that maybe don't get the attention it should!!
