I am currently writing an article around this subject, sort o, and I just want to make sure I have hit all of the 90's DS projects from well known black metal musicians. This means that the DS project was less popular or equal to the black metal side. Things I mean are like Wongraven from Satyricon and Burzum's two DS records. Was there any other 90's black metal musicians that have stray DS or dark ambient records laying around? Also

I suppose Golden Dawn's work could fit into this category. The project itself fuses DS synthesizers with black metal, so it's not like some Golden Dawn albums are purely DS albums, but you still might be interested. He did have a side project with more pure synth stuff called Apeiron, kind of like DS/dark ambient/space stuff. He put out a few releases through that project, the most recent was actually on Hollow Myths. Here's his bandcamp for most of the older Golden Dawn stuff: traunmuller-archives.bandcamp.com/Discogs page for Apeiron: www.discogs.com/artist/3341857-Apeiron-8Golden Dawn is popular but not as big as the BM bands we correlate directly to DS like Burzum. How big are the kinds of artists you're looking for? There are quite a number of DS side projects of black metal bands, but all to different degrees of popularity. Ashmadai was a side project of Celtic Dance, for instance, lesser known band. Lunar Womb came from Henri of Moonsorrow, that's a big name. Bacchia Neraida and Cernunnos came from the Wolfnacht guy. Lamentation was the Der Sturmer guys. Forgotten Kingdoms is the Drowning the Light guy.

I think I was looking for 90's stuff or maybe even 00's. Getting into more recent times is a bit more difficult but even things like Frostveil would fit into that black metal / DS shared space. I think I was just making sure I didnt leave out things that would be on the same level as Mortiis / Vond, Burzum, Wongraven, Lunar Womb and so on.

kaptaincarbon, yeah I don't know of any artists with DS side projects or albums to their level of bm prestige, at least not that I can currently remember. I suppose you could mention Neptune Towers even though it's not really DS. Maybe Paysage's purely winter synth albums, too.

Knjaz Varggoth from Nokturnal Mortum has put out some excellent dungeon synth releases as Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra.

Hate Forest's "Temple Forest" is one of my favorite DS albums, period, and it's the only purely ambient release they did. Ildjarn also has several ambient, somewhat DS releases under the same project title.
Definitely worth remembering that Mortiis was in Emperor as well!

Temple Forest is actually this album: www.discogs.com/Arthur-Blackstarblood/master/1179064Arthur was the bassist on Hate Forest's The Curse, but this album was released under the Hate Forest name at the time despite it actually being someone else. Check out his Pagan Sun's Fire album, too. Great stuff.

one of my all time favourite: awesome movie, awesome theme, awesome band, awesome cover...
Edit: sorry i just read the initial post of this thread, so sorry if it not fits here. But i think there are many Dungeon Synth tracks from well or not so well known Black Metal musicians that are often overlooked. Maybe a topic for a new thread.

Found something interesting by accident. A Dungeon Synth/Dark Ambient project by Nattramn from Silencer. Also a comment on Discogs is interesting: www.discogs.com/de/Trencadis-%C3%96delagt/release/3682470--- First (un)known as Sinneskross in 1994 and later reborn as Trencadis, Nattramn formed this industrial ambient project in 1995 and recorded one demo in Ljungby roughly a year after itΒ΄s birth. The demo was dubbed onto tape and given only to a handful of individuals in the Black Metal underground at the time. "Γdelagt" consists of one song recorded in Mono under rough circumstances. Although Trencadis have been slumbering for 16 years it remains relevant as the beginning of NattramnΒ΄s artistic and spiritual journey. The music could be described as watching over a cold desolate landscape while musically grounded in the sounds and atmospheres of artists such as early Mortiis and the ambient works of Burzum. --- A really cold and melancholic record...

I had heard of Wongraven before, but never actually listened to it until a few weeks ago, and it almost instantly turned into one of my all time favourites. It's insane how good it is
