I hope you have fun watching it: youtu.be/0bNcVNbIL0M Oh damn, that's really cool that you went to the effort to create an audio output on a keyboard where there wasn't one. That means you'll be one of the few people on earth to use those sounds in proper recordings.

Not exactly: a friend of mine did it for me, because an oscilloscope was necessary to verify correct impedance and such things...and I haven't one. Yes, I recorded with that keyboard most tracks for Il Generale Inverno "Ambient One" but also for Sidereal Fortress "The lost Woodsongs"....and more stuff that I can't name here

I currently use Reaper, but most of my work has been with LMMS. I do all software currently, though hope to expand in the future by building a couple drone and contact-mic percussion instruments. My main plugins are ZynAddSubFX and Garritan Aria, the latter of which I got with Finale 2012 and is a good orchestral instrument selection. Dexed and Fantasi are also both good plugins, though the latter often needs outside effects to be full potential. Still, I have a cool harpsichord/mix instrument from that.
I tend to put more drums in than the average DS seems to use, using MT Power Kit, Anarchy Drums and Kvlt Drums by It Might Get Loud, and assorted frame drum and tambourine samples.

Also, stormcrow, I watched the keyboard video, that's way cool. I'm honestly jealous :-P

This thread is very inspiring. I'm not sure if I would label all of my synth/ambient/atmospheric stuff as Dungeon Synth but that's surely the vein I am always tapping from. Thing is I like to keep all options open always. I'll use and have used analog synths, FM, Phase Distortion, samples both downloaded and recorded myself and whatever I feel the soundscape needs. I started doing this kind of music with general midi somewhere around 2002 or 2003 and when I listen back to those midis they really sound pretty Dungeon Synth like and I recognize my sense of melody from there.
Thing is back then I dreamed about being able to do things with sounds I have access to nowadays and it's amazing. It's so amazing in fact that I really don't feel like limiting myself to a certain soundscape. I've tried doing things the traditional way and I just can't do it. Sometimes I end up sounding like pastiche and sometimes it's a different genre altogether. I get an idea and I follow it. I try out sounds and see which conjures up an unison of sound I enjoy and then go from there. I'm very impulsive when it comes to writing music.
I do have a modular synth rig that I like to use, especially for gnarly bass sounds. I do use it for other music too but as far as DS goes a moog-like ladder filter thing with a gnarly compressed mixer or a Roland type spacey synth can be amazing. Recently I've worked the most with plugins which is something I rarely have done. I like the workflow with hardware the most but a good plugin can be almost as satisfying. I'd say keep your mind open and if you've never tried an analog synth, at least give it a shot and see how you like it. A monophonic analog synth with two or three oscillators and a good mixer / something to compress and distort it with can be surprisingly versatile. And not only in playing leads, bass lines etc. It can sound absolutely massive on it's own and do crazy effects and noise.

Also own a C64 with Cynthcart, but not sure if it's gonna work for DS: It most certainly will if you just make it work. SID sounds amazing and even though you can't really get rid off it's stabbing mids it is surprisingly versatile.

Yeah, SID is a beast, just not sure if I can tame it for this kind of sound. Will definitely try though

Indeed I think some C64 Chiptune DS would be right up the alley of a lot of people, including me!!! Hope you try something !!
