Hi all,
What're your thoughts on the Cryo Chamber label and the dark ambient works that focus on telling a story through it's music?
I certainly see the similarities with this and Dungeon Synth, and in fact i' d even argue that some artists and tracks would fit nicely within the Dungeon Synth genre.
Is this a genre that you're interested in? Do some of you explore and create this yourselves?

Cryo Chamber is excellent. The albums Black Corner Den and Love Like Blood are among my favorite releases of any genre so far this year. Its techniques are different from DS in that it almost always goes for a clean, modern, exceptionally high quality sound that prefers digital and CD releases to tapes, and it doesn't restrict itself to medieval/fantasy themes. But it does often focus on world building and storytelling through music in a similar way many DS projects do. The communities are tangentially related as well, Atrium Carceri (Cryo Chamber's founder) and Mortiis were both on the Cold Meat Industry label, some artists on CC post in the DS facebook group, and scene blogs that cover DS also do articles and interviews with CC projects. Personally, I have worked in the dark ambient genre from a similar perspective for some years and have been inspired by some of the artists from Cryo Chamber (as well as ambient artists from Cyclic Law and Cold Spring).

Excellent write up on your opinion, thank you! I completely agree with your sentiments here. I particularly like the world building aspects of it and how they collate to Dungeon Synth. I'd very much be interested in a CC type of Dungeon Synth that doesn't limit itself to high sound quality, that embraces the DIY aaspects of DS. Perhaps I'll create some myself! Do you mind sharing a link to some of your work here? I'll certainly take a look!

Some great stuff on there, I haven't heard the vast majority of it because there is a lot but what I've heard is cool. I've been distanced a lot from the dark ambient scene in the past several years, I was involved in what's sometimes called funeral ambient in the early 2000s though. Should get back into it, I can be picky about it sometimes. But cryo chamber is totally cool.
