I've been going through Buffy the Vampire Slayer for almost two months now. About to start the final season. Nearly an entire year later, I've finally started the last season of Buffy. Three episodes left. Will probably start it again once I'm done. Definitely in my top 5 shows. Glad I took the leap.

My new favourite director is S.Craig Zahler, actually a black metal musician. Directed, wrote and composed the films Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99. The films are drawn out shots, often silent and fuse art house with grind house. The former film is a western with horror vibes, amazing dialogue absolutely gut wrenching gore. The former is a prison film with the same elements but is much more of a deep film. Check them out.
Also watched Good Time by the Safdie Brothers, a high paced film about a ruthless asshole brother who needs to bail out his brother from prison. Soundtrack by Oneohtrix Point Never.
Sorry for ranting, I'm a bit of a film head.

I've seen some clips of Bone Tomahawk but I haven't watched the whole thing. Seemed brutal.

The combat or violence in his films are played out like a typical DnD death. I know hes in a power metal and black metal band too. I think its quite something for him to like DS too. Bone Tomahawk is brutal, but its not constant gore its quite slow, not typical heroic western, its where bad things happen. You should check it out.

I'm still coming off from seeing this last month. Maybe the most I've cried during a movie. Absolutely pheonomal in all ways. Perfect casting, gripping shots, excellent pacing. Not a single moment that isn't beautiful in some regard. Anyone seen this? I highly, highly recommend it. This is probably in my top 5 now.

So last week I finally got to watch Lords of Chaos.. I've also even read the (notorious) book (about 10 years back) -wasn't bad - and I already knew the whole timeline of things, events etc.. Still the movie was way better than expected, I wasn't bored but instead I felt the movie flew by very fast and both as a film and as an item of metal-interest, this is a good thing to watch for anyone .. Anyone else seen it here ? I disregarded it all this time but eventually I feel glad I eventually watched it... p.s. The only criticism that someone could make is that *maybe* Euronymous is depicted more favorably vs Vikerness, but I'm on with it, since Euronymous was the victim and can't tell us his side of things, while the crazy delusional lunatic(and early music genius) that is Varg is still around and enjoying life in France.. Still I felt the movie has done justice to anyone involved, also hinting the serious mental illness that plagued some folks..

Still I felt the movie has done justice to anyone involved, also hinting the serious mental illness that plagued some folks.. I actually got to see it in the theater with some local black metal folks I know, was a fun time. And I rewatched it not too long ago. I think it's great actually, the best possible we could've expected from a big Hollywood-type production. There were a few inaccurate elements that I wish weren't in there such as Euronymous cutting his hair and the girlfriend stuff, but there are a lot of tiny accurate details which I was surprised to see, and I feel like some of the idiosyncratic stuff might have some real historical basis, seems like they did more research than just the Lords of Chaos book. Also I think the emphasis on them being naive rebellious kids is an important reminder for the folks who glorify these events and the attitudes that motivated them. Also about Euronymous being depicted more favorably, I'm not so sure. They obviously made Varg out to be an ass, which is true but maybe not in the way they portrayed, but thinking about the scene where they're talking in the fast food place shortly before the murder, it shows Euronymous basically admitting that it was all just an act, while for Varg the vision was true and real and meant something more than just selling records. Basically that scene says Euronymous is a poser and Varg is true, but I think it's a pretty deep and complex commentary on that sort of dynamic, how one might become a monster through blind devotion to an ideology or whatever, and how sometimes an act can go too far and that it's important to step back to reality before it gets out of hand.

Indeed all good points Andrew and regarding the Varg vs Euronymous I think they went for it : try to show that Euronymous was saying lots of things (like planning to murder Varg etc etc) but not really meaning to do them, at least himself.. Also like the amulets from Dead .. But I don't take it like showing Euronymous is a poser (could be though) and Varg was "trve" but more like, Euronymous was clever enough believing it was all marketing while the lunatic that was/is Varg and many others (like Faust I think killing the dude in the park) took it literally ending up doing nasty things and destroying either theirs or other people lives.. Of course actually Euronymous *could* have a huge burden of him about Dead, but noone will ever know from us outsiders really.. Thanx for the answer Andrew, I thing the movie really poses for the audience a lot of questions, I truly didn't expect to like it that much and I think it's a must for people around the genre to check it diregarding the "notoriety" and dissatisfied people of it..

I read the book Lords of Chaos and thought it was a fairly well-researched effort, but I thought the movie was just absolutely hilarious. Unintentional comedy at every turn, just the corniest movie I've seen in a long time. Many glaring errors and fantastical elements as well. Seemed to me like good fodder for Mystery Science Theater
