How might things be different today if Mortiis never left Emperor?

Good question...It seems like ultimately it was Ihsahn's personality that ended up dominating the band by the time of Prometheus, both in terms of the symphonic and avant-garde developments in their sound.
Judging from both The Smell of Rain and onward, plus the increasing proggy/jazzy bent of Ihsahn's solo material, I think it's possible that Emperor would still be around today, and would have probably gone an Ulver-like direction.

I think Mortiis lost interest in Black Metal in general, so it's really interesting to contemplate.

So much atmosphere.. Anthems is a masterpiece as a whole of course. Too bad the direction afterwards was more technical for my taste, still bought Prometheus and Equilibrium on release back then..

I wish they played more often in clubs instead of big festivals, so I can see them live.
Btw, is it me or do the horses in the beginning sound more like dolphins? I can never unhear that.
