Felt like we could use a generalized black metal thread to post what we've been listening to, new stuff we've picked up, recommendations etc. Surprised we've gone this long without one. If you want to discuss an artist in more in depth, consider making a separate thread if you think it's warranted.

Going through the first Borknagar full-length. I don't know why I've never really looked into Borknagar that much. I've seen their second album listed on all kinds of 'best ever' lists but never gave them a listen. I've been missing out, fatally. This album is ridiculously good. Nattens Madrigal is my all time favorite BM album so I love Garm's vocals on this. Guitar is driving and very 'black metal' but never boring or unimaginative. Everything is spot on. I would say this is an 'atmospheric black metal' album, but I don't really like using that term; not ABM in the way its used now, but the cover art is exactly how it sounds, atmospheric in all its senses.

I guess there's an epic bm and an ABM thread already, but I see this as more of a general discussion thread that might be used more often. If you want to stick to those respective subgenres in those thread, feel free. Use whatever thread you want.

I've given these 2017 BM albums more than a handful of plays recently.

I dig this one, especially the opening track which sounds really like a goblin black metal - grim, midpaced and savage. There is a full-length by this band as well.

This is a local band where I live. Probably the best black metal to come out of Alaska, not that there's much competition, but still I think I would find it excellent no matter where it was from. arriapaetus.bandcamp.com/

I'd argue that it's better than anywhere else in America because it's beautiful, dark, cold, and isolated, same latitude as Norway. But there's little black metal culture here apart from a small facebook group and a handful of dedicated individuals. It's all very self-driven, which I think is quite cool and way more black metal than the scene culture which motivates most of the rest of the world. But yeah, we don't have a lot to show for it yet.

Witherer, these all rule. The notorious demo flipper 'demosuche' is selling the Starcave demo on Discogs for $40 while it's still available from the label.. zerointerno, wasn't there some kind of controversy over this release? I feel like this drew some weird attention when it came out, but I could be mis-remembering. andrewwerdna, this band is kool. Kind of irregular and interesting. Is that label kind of the ug bm label for Anchorage?

I don't see much discussion of these bands on the Facebook page. And there are a few other bands I can think of outside of that label. But I'm still an outsider to that community, the weird dungeon synth guy, so I could be more out-of-the-loop than I realize.

This demo. Cheesy, seemingly chorused, guitars, cheap scarce synths and drum-machine percussions. Dungeon/basement feel. The second track, "Godz in Purple", is a highlight. Tracklist in description is doubled for some reason tho
Things that come from Ural always felt special for me...

Real hazy lo-fi EP from 2008, guitars nearly become a wash of noise
