Today I learned the hard way not to buy big batches in bandcamp.

Long story short, I spend 70 euros after filling my cart from my wishlist and careful consideration for an hour + with more than enough DS stuff, which as they are of low price were probably too many for bandcamp's load :/

I start the checkout and hit purchase and it stucks on the 1st and get then a gateway timeout. I see that only one has gone through and retry removing that one. And again after some time gateway timeout. Then all of a sudden releases started appearing on my collection I get happy and wait. When about 15 minutes pass and stuff stopped getting added to my collection, so I start to check :

Hit one: some things did not went through , about 11.86 euros worth of releases. Which brings us to number 2:
Hit two : I got in this way dupe charged for I don't know how many albums. Which explains why the previous 5 were not purchased
hit three and worse : I got to my collection to get the stuff as after what Elixir did (remove his stuff and lose them) I immediately get them and realise slowly but tormentingly that around 11 releases (all >2 euros) ARE on my damn collection and showing on album page as owned but on my download link show ERROR on download page, probably because they could be tied with the 1st unsuccesful or 2nd , dunno which was the good or bad , pay id receipt, and I can;t download them.

  Very angry mode on.

Of course, after the shock I sent a first and then a second with all problems support ticket (I had to google it bandcamp.com/contact   ..) and guess what :

- You have a small allowed characters amount, so you have to fit all of the above, as you will see bellow in a message ..
- You don;'t get neither a support ticket.
- nor any email that at least the filled form reached them since there is too slow loading times and I must have got 2 timeouts for sending the second one.


I will update you with their answer but I'm not positive at all during holiday season or them trying to help anyway.
So, NEVER EVER buy happy happy big batches of stuff cause you could be fucked.
Also, I am deeply disappointed by bandcamp. I spent 70 euros for all of the things I wanted and in short, 5 releases were not bought cause of dupes and another 11 (!!!!!!!!!) are on my own list but can't download.
No, I WILL SAY IT NOW< FUCK BANDCAMP.

This is about today's around 70 euros batch purchases I made. As I told,there were slow loading times on your site and after it gave me a "Gateway Time Out" I retried the purchase again and again time out. In 5 minutes albums/purchases started appearing on my owned BUT with endless problems :
1. As I told already I have been DUPED charged for many items , proofs are the mails you sent me having things dupe charged.
2. Other items have NOT gone through, I put the items left on shopping cart which were 11.86 euros worth and OTHER DUPES were purchased instead of them .( I sent details of my cart on those missed on my first support ticket)
3. And now I just realise that on my collection link, when I click on specific albums from todays batch to download, I get a "not here" page like the payment didn;t went through though I paid and are on the OWN/collection list:

Quick update :

The great news is that I figured I could just try the download link on the email receipt of each individual of the above and IT WORKED. So got all of the 11 I had paid for and in my collection, but notice in case anyone has ever problem : the download link on the receipt has of course CORRECT pay id so it work, hope noone ever has a similar problem.

A thanx to the only artist I contacted before understanding the whole problem, Swords of Numenor who rapidly replied that he'll look into it, but it is no more needed as I got my stuff as I said above, endless thanx for a rapid reply, respect! I will contact him of course that I have it sorted.

The bad news is that I have indeed been dupe charged on some of the 1-2 euros stuff which amounts to the 11.86 euros stuff that remained on cart and never got charged/paid/through. For those I hope bandcamp gives a 11.86 euros gift card since they will see what albums I've been charged to two times. I will issue another 3rd contact/ticket to bandcamp stating that I got the other ones but I expect a refund for the dupes.

Either way I feel good for at least sorting the stuff of almost 60 out of 70 euros I've been charged at least.

AGAIN, next time NEVER BUY big batches :/

I will keep you updated with what will bandcamp do on my refund. And of course it's not that I'll cry for the 12 euros but I 'll gonna spend them on the things that remained unbought iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiif they wake up sometime and answer the tickets of course..

Damn, this is rough. Glad you've gotten some of the download issues sorted out! I'm glad you posted this, because I never would have thought there would be an issue with big batches. Now I can be cautious in the future.

Thank you a lot ChaucerianMyth, the number of unique transactions based on the emails was 36, just to have it noted somewhere.

Still no reply on their part, and more disheartening is this on their support page :

Now I know bandcamp is not that huge of a company as Facebook to have constant support 24/7 but still while I too love partying and stuff this doesn't read well/make professional impression a little bit.

Still I love it because before bandcamp was chaos and that's why I was disappointed, it is offering a gooooood service for music much better in all areas than beatport,itunes,etc + of course it's great for underground/independent music, discovery etc.. And has made available in lossless/great quality endless great music without charge (the free/NYP - like your great albums Chaucerian Myth) , 90% of my DS stuff are things I was served this way there..

So all is well at least. Well, they could technically instead of refund just give me the exact sum in a gift/buy card to spend than wait for like even 30 days to get the money back but still props to them!

Glad to see you got this resolved! I had hope that the people at bandcamp would be really cool about this. So far, in my experience, they haven't really done anything to show that they don't genuinely care, and they run their business as such.

Dude, I just saw this post, I'm really sorry! I know it's small potatoes at this point, but I am happy to do the "send album as gift" feature to you if you weren't able to get my album downloaded. Please let me know, I'm delighted you wanted to listen to any of the albums. Keep me posted.

Just wanted to give a heads up to all , many thanx to the original poster on the DS FB pages who posted that Bandcamp runs a special for the Staying @ Home for the artists this Friday, cutting their own share of revenues : daily.bandcamp.com/features/bandcamp-covid-19-fundraiser

It is something great, although I'd rather have it run for like the whole weekend since a day is super fast really... Anyway I'm probably gonna jump and make some purchases

Some recent issues I had with Bandcamp:

1) a couple of months ago, I noticed that a lot of supporters' "avatars" have disappeared from my published albums.

2) today, I found out that ALL the spaces in tags have been automatically removed, so that "dungeon synth" becomes "dungeonsynth", "dark ambient" becomes "darkambient" etc.

WTF?

stormcrow thanx for bringing it into attention.. Since I have to watch dungeon synth tag on bandcamp I was surprised to this thing you noticed and crawled both of these for the last few days.. Essentially I didn't understand if it was for some releases since other (older and recent) still have the original dungeon synth while other like you mentioned where changed to dungeonsynth.. (and the other changes)... Bad practice of Bandcamp really comes with a "what were they thinking" bubble.. Either way if you have an update into this stormcrow let us now, thanx again man..
