Hey guys and girls, if you did not know me I write for Hollywood Metal and have been doing a monthly digest on Dungeon Synth since July of 2015. During that time I have kept up to date with bandcamp releases and interviewed various artists like Erang, Verminaard, Chaucerian Myth, Henri Sorvali, Grimmik, and others. I also moderate Reddit's r/metal, and other subs which I constantly talk about dungeon synth which borders on obsession / light hearted joke. It is my hope to be an enthusiast / archivist for this sound/scene and chart its progression from obscure subgenre to whatever it becomes. Dungeon Synth DigestDungeon Synth Master List (Reddit / Updated monthly) Interview with Genre Cult
Early History of Dungeon Synth (No Clean Singing)
I also hope to start a Play By Post RPG on this board that will run through some of my old school D&D modules because that seems to be the greatest idea in the world.

Glad to have to here. I didn't know about the "Master List," definitely got to go through that a bit. I used to try to list every dungeon synth album that existed, haha. That would be pretty difficult these days, and actually that's what I thought the "Master List" might be for a second. It would be great if in the future there were something like Encyclopedia Metallum for ds.
I love everything you've written so far, you're always on point, speak directly and clearly, and your enthusiasm is contagious.
Recently though I especially like the podcast you did with genre cult. That's first time I've really heard dungeon synth spoken about in audio, and it's really cool. On one of your Hollywood Metal posts you talked about starting a podcast, right? I think that's a really good idea, but yeah probably a lot of work.
I also think you running a game on this board sounds excellent and I'd love to be a part of it.

So I was thinking of transferring it maybe over to this site as Reddit only has a finite number of characters and it grows each month. It is not everything that is released rather just the stuff that I write about. The problem is there is a definite divide between one off practice records and records that have thought and production put behind it. Bandcamp is really easy to release 1 or two tracks as a release and I usually try to wait until that artist comes around again with a proper EP/Demo

I know exactly what you're talking about. If I were to restart my list these days (which I might do if I start doing stuff on my blog again) I would just link to the stuff I write about as well.

Good to have you here! The digest is always a pleasant read, and the list is very useful.

I especially enjoy the interviews. A good subject for one would be Erdstall, given nobody has clue what happened to him or whether or not he will release new music.

It's the Abandoned Places guy (Loremaster, Mystic Towers, Zweilicht, Siliniez). He stopped doing AP, but considering he made a new Mystic Towers release after he ended AP, maybe he'll do more for Erdstall. I have a feeling he won't, but I hope I'm wrong.

Call me crazy but this may be the best place to do something like this. I've sorta already started in another thread. Perhaps we can collectively do it as long as certain formatting standards are followed.

Most of mine are 3 styles (Dark, Light, and in between) I think if we came up with a reasonable catelogizing system that isn't to hampering and also useful for people we can combine. I am going to just switch this list over to BBcode because I think even if it doesn't get used here, there are BBcodes to HTML and so on that is could be used elsewhere.

How was this experiment? I saw the start of it and then didn't see it again. I think the 4 point system would be great and even like it better than my 3 category system and am trying to think wether or not "produced" would be a better description for the top one rather than technical as it would be a better antonym to raw. I l wasn't too keen on the different color combinations as some could fit into multiple colors even on different records.. Also things like fantasy could apply to a majority of works as well as ambient. Sympho and cinematic would have a lot of overlap and so would drone and experimental. With all of that said, it is an interesting start to categorizing. I think if people want to push it forward, the key is for it to be useful to people both as newcomers and veterans. I can see the color codes being useful for veterans looking for classic (time period) or theme (medieval)

kaptaincarbon experiment stops, because everybody seems too lazy Here is PSD file you can change it as you want (you even can add there Pirates, because everyone knows: everething better with pirates!) I ask people in my post to change and upgrade it, because my version too primitive and fast-created. Use it as you want! And if you need some of my help in photoshop madskillz, feel free to ask!
