Eidetic Dreams of Sentient Trees by Elves & Dwarves and Taur-nu-Fuin by Thangorodrim are personal favorites, but there's been so goddamn much good dungeon synth this year that it's hard to pick one in particular.
EDIT: Oh, also, Morketsvind's new album is stellar! And of course Barak-Tor...the list goes on.

Yeah I would definitely have to agree with this. This release is just completely unparalleled imo, it's so lush and beautiful. Fantastic stuff.

Does anyone else find themselves in the situation where their DS AOTY is your overall AOTY? My favorite overall releases this year have been in this genre.

Does anyone else find themselves in the situation where their DS AOTY is your overall AOTY? My favorite overall releases this year have been in this genre. Definitely. I've had a really lonely year overall and I find that it's the best genre to make me feel at peace with my loneliness without being too depressing, as well as spark creativity and make me more productive. And like you said earlier in the thread, The Canterbury Tales is in a class all its own. It's definitely my AOTY. It's been a while since I experienced something so masterful and immersive. Just kinda wish he sold physical copies.

Yep, 100% agreed with you, singe, and Tyrannus. In our little community it isn't that odd, you're among friends here. A lot of us listen to dungeon synth almost exclusively hahaha.
And singe, I know where you're coming from man. I'm going through it right now too. Hate to be the one to give unsolicited, kind of off topic advice, but just hang in there. As trite as it is, things do eventually get better if you hold on.

Good to know. Thanks, man. Hey, yeah, could be worth sending him a message thru his bandcamp page to inquire if he has any to sell. I know he didn't list them to sell, but he received a decent share of the 50 I made so it can't hurt to ask, since I'm not sure what he did with his copies. Maybe you'll get lucky!
