New to this forum so hello! I think some of my favorite doom/stoner metal bands include the classics ( Sleep, Toke, Bongripper, etc.) but I've also been into a band called Thou recently, as well as some darker stuff on the DS side. Skeleton War 2 is one of my all time favorite artists right now (the music is so crunchy! Like nintendo dungeon crawler meets anamanaguchi) theskeletonwar.bandcamp.com/album/bonechief-derizogthou.bandcamp.com/album/rhea-sylvia Sleep remains as one of my favorite bands of all time, and was the entry point for me into the whole world of doom/stoner. Thou is also fantastic! May I recommend some Cough? Here's some Cough: Cough - Still They Pray (Bandcamp)Also these guys are not as well known so I have to share them! For fans of fat, groovy, heavy, sludgy, stoner doom: Weedruid - Into the Acid Swamp (Bandcamp)

Just discovered these guys here: THRONEHAMMER. Great epic doom metal with some light sludg-y drops here and there. Think of a dirty blend of Candlemass, Primordial and epic-era Bathory. Really liking it!

Haven't listened to much doom metal in a while. I do think it's a bit inaccurate to claim that slowing down the tempo of an existing style of music is subject for a new genre term. For example, Pentagram is heavy metal, Evoken is death metal, and Nortt is black metal. Beethoven could write a sonata with one movement being a "doomy" movement, and the Allegro/Allegretto being a complete contrast, and compartmentalization of the movements was never even a consideration. I find that the best "doom metal" is metal from an existing subgenre that takes the most evocative or impactful elements of that subgenre and allows them to breathe in a way that brings a powerful clarity to the compositions. Skepticism's music is the pinnacle, my preference being for Stormcrowfleet. That said, I've finally gotten around to enjoying these: seawitchdoom.bandcamp.com/album/the-blackened-sea

Galgenfrist is a masterpiece to me, and got me back into metal. The atmospherics and layers of the album as a whole are really mesmerizing. I was just playing this and came here to post it:

Thank you! Just a personal obsession that I felt the need to research. Like most of my endeavours, the motivation faded after a while, but I still add to it occasionally when I discover something of interest.

Sometimes I refer to that flavor of gothic death-doom as 'angel-statue-core'. This one would be a good addition

I've tried endless times to get into many -doom stuff but always fail besides the greats (Black Sabbath's classic cannon and Cathedral's A Carnival Bizarre).. One thing I've heard and liked though from recent releases was Smoulder's one... But on the other hand today I was trying to get into Atlantean Kodex's latest and couldn't and I really really tried...

Love Doom, try Iron Void Or Altar of Oblivion. The story telling is top notch!
