Any other fans of Music for Programming compilations? They're mixes of instrumental music intended for listening while doing any sort of task to aid concentration. I know many others, like me, often listen to dungeon tunes in the same way. Music for Programming episodes are each compiled by a different musician/producer/etc. and are mixes with all sorts of instrumental stuff from Ennio Morricone to cyber punk. There's a lot of synth music, ambient, contemporary classical (e.g. Phillip Glass, Arvo Part), modern experimental electronics (like Oneohtrix Point Never, Cylob,), etc. Occasional stuff that sounds a hell of a lot like Dungeon Synth. I can't recommend it enough. For DS tastes, maybe start with episode 05: Abe Mangger or episode 18: Konx Om Pax. (P.S. If you're not diggin an episode, try another - they're pretty distinct.)

Nice thread Alder!! I will bookmark the link, thanx for posting!
4-5 years back when I was doing my MSc, I was unaware of the distinct genre of Dungeon Synth so that was out of the question.. The things I enjoyed more listening without getting distracted while mostly working in good old C stuff or later C# in Visual Studio were :
# 1 : Myst original soundtrack, it really as in-game helps (my at least) the brain relax and think in puzzling situations.. It's great, it's not distracting and makes you think.. A masterpiece. # 2 : Deus Ex soundtrack, almost as much BUT here this was appropriate in more late night, deadline approaching moments.. The feeling made me push through anything in a good sense and was appropriate with Computer Science. # 3 : classic ambient in general, mostly Brian Eno's music for Airports, but even random ambient stuff I wanted to listen and coding was the appropriate moment from all else..
Nowadays I'm far away from programming in job and off-job stuff and I kinda dropped it but always wanted to get into python to use it for some computer maintenance stuff.. Now, I don't know if Dungeon Synth would be my favorite genre for coding, I prefer it while I read books and similar more atmospheric moments, programming has a sci-fi feeling I'd rather probably go with the tested approaches before!
Again thanx for the link!

I was originally introduce to MfP for actual programming (C++ & ROOT), but these days I rarely write any code & use this music mostly for writing & editing, sometimes also reading & drawing. There are definitely touches in MfP similar to those three sounds crystallogic13 mentioned, but maybe not exactly. Good recommendation on the Myst soundtrack, btw!

I would also recommend Cluster I as more "concentration music" that will probably appeal to dungeoneers. The album's a damn classic, so listen to it anyway if you're unfamiliar!

Nice Alder, thank you for the rec, I will dive right into!!
I was thinking which metal records I listened to, while studying as a kid, I usually didn't listen to music at all while studying to not get distracted. And the one and only album I remember didn't distract me at all, was In The Woods... - Omnio, a great album. Actually I played text adventures too to that.. Of course could be a little enjoyable distracting to some others but still..

I was going to mention keygenjukebox.net but it appears it's down now. Was just using it last week but I guess there have been a number of times things like this are taken down, which is too bad because it's really kool. Just hours of music from various keygens. All the music was pulled from keygenmusic.net but in an easy playlist kind of streaming format. Besides keygenjukebox, I usually listen to Soliloquy for Lilith by Nurse with Wound or some kind of softer noise wall like Monk Illuminating a Manuscript. In actuality I listen to all kinds of stuff, but those are things I can actually focus through.

In danger of turning this into "Alder's non-DS electronic music recommendations thread," here's a very cool synthwave/space-synth/cyber album that's just been released. Recommended listening for driving/working/exercising: Holographic World by Dr. Nakano
