How have I missed this thread ? Don't know where to start, but last summer I watched DCD for the second time (after many years) at one of the best places you can enjoy them en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odeon_of_Herodes_Atticus in Athens Greece... To say the experience was once in a lifetime is an understatement, it's not just that the place and setting was great, the time of year/noon, the supreme setlist and of course the totally perfect execution and evoked atmospheres ... Thank God I lived to see live under this setting Xavier, Avatar and so many other hymns..

I love the first three records but after that I've had a hard time getting into it. Spleen and Ideal is one of the most important albums of my life.

Oh gosh what can I say about DCD? Hyuuuuge fan here!
My favourite track is hard to pick but, this one is a close contender:
Also not exactly DCD but close enough, and a showcase for Lisa Gerrard's incredible voice. -

This song is such an incredible vibe. That's the song that got me into Brendan Perry's songs. I liked Lisa Gerrad's tracks but struggled a bit with Perry's before that one clicked for me, then the floodgates slammed open. I love the line at the end, "We sat and watched, as the moon rose, for the very first time." Such beautiful imagery in those simple words. Not sure what it's supposed to mean, or if it's just meant to be surreal, but that one line is always so powerful for me. I love the video too.

I have only very recently come to this band, mostly because of them being mentioned on this forum and so far I only have their album In The Realm Of A Dying Sun which I really like. Which is best to get next?

Spleen and Ideal, The Serpent's Egg and Aion are all also essential so just make your pick mate and go on with the others too.. The rest of their early discography is also mandatory in the long run mate, but take your time and enjoy, discovering Dead Can Dance is once in a lifetime, enjoy!!!

I'm not entirely sure why, but Dead Can Dance has never clicked with me beyond their later album Anastasis, which I like A LOT. If I'm not listening to that then I go for Arcana, especially As Bright As A Thousand Suns. They strike the same nerve that I wish DCD hit for me.

Does anyone here produce music similar to DCD? I've been interested and looking to do a project like this as a vocalist (Perry was a big vocal influence on me). Darker world, classical, ambient, electronic type stuff.

Darker world, classical, ambient, electronic type stuff. The first artist I can think of, from the DS realms that certainly is very influenced and has tracks with similar vibes , are some of the stuff of dame-silu-de-mordomoire.bandcamp.com .. And while of course Dead Can Dance have (as it should ) influenced everyone who is blessed to have listened them, there are not more similar suggestions at the moment (besides the aforementioned).. Hopefully some people try this direction too....
