I love the entire OST for Grand Budapest Hotel. In particular the recurring themes which can be found in near entirety on Track 5,6 and 13. Track 27 "Canto at Gabelmeister's Peak" being my favorite of the entire soundtrack.
Leftover 2 OST. This show hit me in a way that I can't describe. When I listen to this soundtrack I'm transported back to the first season (despite this being for the second season) and find myself reliving all those memories of pain, suffering and eternal loss. The main theme can be heard on the second track. It's revisited numerous times with multiple variations. It's a simple phrase that captures the agony of helplessness and despair perfectly.

Hypnotic and unlike anything I've ever heard.

My favorite fantasy OST are not very original but they are so important to me: Conan, Willow, Legend & the Dark Crystal.
The main theme of the Dark Crystal is just plain melancholy.

Both Vampire Hunter D movies have great soundtracks. The first one has an old school RPG vibe while the second is more orchestral.

I've watched one of the Vampire Hunter D movies long ago. And I must agree - the music is great. Sound pretty much like sort of DS. What do you guys think of the old Blood Omen ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfCiawWQH9k

Soundtracks of late 70s/80s horrormovies are great. Somehow the synths add more atmosphere than the normal jumpscare-is-coming-music that they use nowadays.

I saw that some years ago, I don't remember the music being that good. That track is awesome.

The original Wicker Man soundtrack has been a favorite of mine for quite a while. It contains a lot of English/Irish/Scottish influenced folk and even has the great Christopher Lee singing on a few tracks. I have a half started cover of the Fire Leap track, maybe one day I'll get around to finishing it up.

Hmm, good tip, need to check the soundtrack out. I really liked the movie but don't seem to remember anything of the soundtrack right now. Like master Erang I love the Conan soundtrack, also I was really into Willow the movie but don't think I've ever listened to the soundtrack itself. Must try to remember that too. I've been meaning to watch both Legend and Dark Crystal again, I don't think I've seen either since I was a child. Speaking of Basil, I liked his soundtrack to Flesh+Blood too though it's not as great as Conan. I don't remember the movie at all, must've been sort of trashy so I should really watch it again. It does have Jennifer Jason Leigh (and Rutger Hauer) so I should probably buy a DVD. Also agree on the old horror movie soundtracks, they are at best really sublime. I don't really like watching the movies but I do love their soundtracks. Was everyone too embarrassed to mention this or is it too obvious? I freely admit liking that, even with the massive overuse on a zillion intros. I dig his Ninth Gate soundtrack as well. Tallenna

Was everyone too embarrassed to mention this or is it too obvious? The soundtrack is certainly a classic... the film, not so much. There are some great scores in Hammer's Dracula series, especially "Taste the Blood of Dracula".

Well if we are starting about old horror movies anyway. Here is a classic with a superweird, but good soundtrack:
If you haven't watched Susperia yet, and you like old cult movies, you will love this one. I found the whole atmosphere in the movie brilliant.
