I would recommend Bauhaus and The Birthday Party, both quite chaotic and less spidery than most goth music, but more enjoyable too i also think.
And for just straight post-punk, then i think PiL are always worth a listen. Their first few albums are bizarre, unnerving, and moving in many ways.
Sorry i can't embed video links, but am not at my computer. Will try to pull up some good ones when i next get online.

The Wake Underrated Scottish post-punk band, much of their back catalog has been reissued in recent years.

Just heard this Echo West track on Intergalactic FM, it has a slow dirge melody like some dungeon synth.

A friend told me about The Smartpils recently, their No Good No Evil LP from '87 is excellent.

I am in my goth rock/post-punk/deathrock obsession again. It happens every few months with me, that I almost only listen to this genre again. I always was a big fan of the genres, and I grew up with them. There are some bands I always keep on listening to (The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, and Clan of Xymox), but at certain times I am only in the mood for this, instead of ambient or metal.
One of the things I discovered this time is the band Belgrado.
And of course there are some bands and songs that I listen to very often. Specimen is classic of course.
She Past Away is a Turkish Dark wave duo, somehow the language sounds very gloomy and perfect with the music.
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry is quite underrated in the post-punk scene imo. Wish more people knew of them, they are pretty fierce.

This thread so far is filled with such solid classics. This is a genre I grew up with due to both of my parents being super young when they had me and being very heavy into the goth/punk scene at the time.
Is anyone into any Japanese goth? Sincerely think that country has some of the best and most underrated bands in the genre.
This band (Jigokue) in particular has strong ties to the black metal scene, containing (on bass I believe) the sole member of the project Endless Dismal Moan, one of my absolute favorite DSBM projects (RIP):

I like Belgrado. This live video they did was good:
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry is a band I discovered at some point in the past year or so but haven't really dived into yet. I really like this track:
Specimen, idk, deathrock stuff, not my thing. But I got to say that Christian Death song you posted in the cool songs thread is one I've listened to numerous times now, it's amazing. I've tried other Christian Death tracks since then and haven't enjoyed them nearly as much.
Jigokue, very cool, I need to look into this Japanese goth stuff, I didn't know it was a thing.
Qual is a really great active project right now, side-project of Lebanon Hanover:

This one is also pretty dungeonish.

The only Goth rock I've ever been really into is that early Goth/Post-Punk mix that Bauhaus and Joy Division had going on. Especially In The Flat Field. I love that album to death.

Stream of Consciousness by Hapax was good. I almost never listen to goth anymore but when I do it's Sisters of Mercy in my car (Hyundai Getz) or The Cure a Forest or seventeen seconds by my computer. When I was younger, much younger than today I did listen to The Cure all the time. but it was back when goth girls in Sweden where pretty and that was before all the Ricky Lake and Jerry Springer goths with their eyeliner shrubbery, obesity and wheelchairs. But I did like Stream of Consciousness

I'm a big fan of old school goth, death rock and post-punk. Joy Division is THE band for me from the early purveyors of post-punk bleakness. My wife is more of a goth, so we listen to quite a lot of that stuff and go to gigs, clubs etc. A newer band I really like are The Flatfield from Finland, the catch that 80's vibe quite well IMO.
