Ok, this is awkward. The name I was about to use for my project is already in use by a black metal band. Is kind of hilariuos and disappointing at the same time, given that I was already working on the logo. Now I'm thinking if using it anyway (the black metal owning it band doens't look that popular, no sells on their bandcamp page) or modifying it.

If you like the name I’d say go for it!

I'm just curious what you folks are using to record and what your techniques are, especially if you work in a more old-school DIY fashion. Do you use VSTs or all hardware, or do you record to computer or tape deck? etc. That sort of thing. Yes, I do record directly from synth to computer or sometimes to tape first. When working with Fåntratt we play the synth keyboard directly into the mic-in with no boost. Then I copypaste the wav back and forth in Steinberg Wavelab where I edit it and add effects like EQ, echo, reverb and filter. I do fade in and outs. I often make a baseline or something that I loop in my headphones while I play the keyboard.

BandLab has now an authomatic mastering tool for FREE!!! of course it cannot be compared to 50€/track professional studio mastering, but I'm pretty sure that it can do the same work (if not better) as cheap online services like CloudBounce etc....
let's try!

Just gave it a shot with an older track I had and it actually sounded pretty damn good, especially in comparison to cloudbounce and LANDR! There's a lot to say though for making sure your tracks a mixed well enough pre-mastering.

Ooh, very interesting... definitely going to try this and see how my efforts compare. I think I can balance the levels ok, but the rest is still a bit of a mystery to me... Here's the direct link, I had to watch a video to find it... www.bandlab.com/mastering

just doing some "on the fly" attempts, and found it somehow better than Cloudbounce. Of course you have almost no tweaking options (three only: flat, brightness, more bass) so you'll got basically flat results...which may not be a bad thing: sometimes I like mastering to pump up the volume but being faithful to the original mix, for example.

New to this forum, so what's up! I had a question in regards to physical instrumentation: are there any computer compatible instruments you'd recommend? Sorry if I've repeated a previous post.
Thanks!

Thanks! Hello. There's good info and recommendations for hardware on this thread. How are you doing your recordings now? If you just want to record the raw audio output of a keyboard while it's played, then technically any instrument is 'computer compatible' since you're just recording it's audio output into the computer audio input. If you're going to use MIDI to record/generate the sounds on the hardware, then a MIDI instrument is obviously needed. Luckily a lot of old hardware can interface with any computer just by using a 5DINmidi-to-USB adapter.

Any recommendations?

Any recommendations? Nice. I’m using Logic X and I often use the software instruments that came with it along with others I've added over time. Since I only use software instruments within Logic, I just have MIDI controller keyboard (eg. m-audio.com/keystation-49-mk3 ) which just outputs MIDI data when played that drives the software instruments in logic. If you’re thinking about just using the sounds that come with logic (and whatever else you download) getting a MIDI controller keyboard might be a good option. If you’re interested in old school keyboards, I don’t have a specific recommendation, but one strategy might be to see what’s selling in your area and check out youtube for demo videos of that model to hopefully give an idea of its features, sounds and patches.

Thanks so much for this recommendation!!!! I have knowledge of MIDI but am unaware of what keyboards work well. Do these midi instruments work in Audacity?

Why switching to another software if you're already able to edit MIDI with Logic? Audacity does not support MIDI and (for me) doesn't work fine as a multitrack recording platform, as well!
