Just missed seeing attacker, kind of a bummer, not sure if they're good live now though. First two albums are killer. At least I ended up seeing manilla road last year.

I strongly recommend the band ICE SWORD. Their album "Dragon Magic" is really that - magical. Epic heavy metal a la Manilla Road with nods towards "Hammerheart" era Bathory and even a bit black metal in the guitar sound (only present every now and then) come along quite special sounding. As a bonus they also make use of a keyboard here and there. One may have to get used to the vocals, but once this is done you are rewarded with fine crafted metal with, well, passion. My fave song "Dragon Clash" can be heard here: icesword.bandcamp.com/track/dragon-clash-2(a melancholic intro and at about 02:00 it erupts in pure epic metal with a fantastic vocal melody line) But their sound is also quite fine represented in this song on YT.

...so, do you LOVE Epic Metal like Warlord, Manilla Road, Brocas Helm? This is definitely what you need: irongriffin.bandcamp.com/album/curse-of-the-skynever heard anything like this since Lordian Guard and Doomsword, but here the vocalist is just OUTSTANDING!!!!

While I normally am not much of a fan of female vocals (only in 80s pop-rock ), I just stumpled upon SMOULDER and have to say that I really like this. It's a great blending of epic doom and crunchy heavy metal, def. worth at least checking out here: smoulder.bandcamp.comHere's their cover (a piece by Alan Craddock if I'm not mistaken) as an "appetizer"

Old but pure gold... Defender from the EP... There are guitar fireworks here, besides the absolute perfection of the album version, I always like this even more than that... And that says a lot..
Edit: Forgot to say, I saw Manowar this summer, after all these years, in their closing gig of this year's tour in Athens Greece in June... Great playing, sound, night, conditions, everything 100%, along with this years Dead Can Dance(2nd one, first about 5-7 years back) in "Odeon of Herodes Atticus" -best of great playlist btw, Xavier, Summoning of The Muse, Avatar, etc etc- they were at my 37 years of age , my best ever gigs/events I ever went to I think... Never expected that 3 months back.. Pure excellence on both events..

Wow, there are some great recommendations in this thread. I am a big fan of that retro 80s fantasy feeling.
Something, that has not been mentioned in this thread, but I feel deserves it is Black Knight's Master of Disasters Album.

what have you named, man! how many memories!!! I discovered this obscure album many years ago by reading a known Italian collector's review....it was almost impossibile-to-find stuff....I found a (now legendary) old bootleg from the Reborn Classics days at a record fair in Germany...think 2000 or 2001. Thanks for bringin' it back!
