Surprised this thread wasn't made yet.
Does anyone else play 5e and have created their own campaign and world? Lets hear some stories! What stuff have you homebrewed?

First introduction was obviously PC RPG games for me, Phantasies(do they count as AD&D?) and SSI series (Pool of Radiance etc.) as well as of course the legendary Eye of the Beholders.. There was much exposure also in computer magazines of the era of table RPGs as a result, and actually most people who played RPGs a(& Adventures) at PCs also played table ADnD as well as read Conan comics , listened to Metal and the whole package of that really magical era (198x-1995-7 max) ..
The first ADnD real party was with my cousin and his experienced RPGer party at around 1994 but it was long way from home and short lived..
The "normal" party we had was much later at the university years , 2000-2004 with a good party of friends all then seasoned rpgers.. Great memories.. If anyone has a chance to play real table RPG with a good(=friendly and funny) party it's a great experience, though I never underestimate the loneliness of just taking your time alone with a great RPG in front of your PC.. Those are some of the best experiences too..
And it's great that we now have after so many years a proper genre for listening to.. That makes me happy.. Always listening to DS nowadays (+thrown into epic metal) when playing/reading etc relevant stuff!!
p.s. Stormcrow looking forward man!!! Nice!!!

I've been playing RPGs for a long time too, although not as long as crystallogic. My first exposure was in 2000, when I was 11 or 12. I used to browse the fantasy/sci-fi section when my parents were shopping at Borders bookstore, and I found a copy of the 3rd edition Monster Manual which was quite new at the time. I had no idea what this strange book was, only that it was full of monsters, and that there was clearly some massive underlying structure at work. I convinced my parents to get it for me and this led to my exploration of the genre as a whole. the game Baldur's Gate was another very formative work for me. In time, I learned to run the system and started homebrew campaigns for my brothers. My uncle gave me his old copies of the 1st edition AD&D rulebooks, which began my collecting hobby. I now have a pretty substantial collection of RPG materials, spanning many years and all sorts of systems. For a while I also ran an OSR-adjacent blog called Dungeon Smashing Empire. I always like to see more D&D-related activity on this site

I've only just recently got into D&D a few years ago. I tried 3.5e and just didn't have much fun but also the GM wasn't very roleplay-oriented. I've been playing consistently the last two years doing 5e and it's been a lot of fun. I have yet to do the official modules though. It's all just been homebrewed stories. The most current one is a steampunk-ish one very loosely based off City of Ember, with a world with no sky. It's been really fun! I got a chance to play the homebrew Dirge class from DnDWiki also with a homebrewed philosophy background, which I highly suggest people play both.

I like 5e, but my favorites are 3.5, AD&D, and 0D&D. I like a lot of the rules-lite OSR stuff, but I also really enjoy how deep your customization can go with 3.5. Two very different play styles. For what it's worth, I think that 5e does a decent job of balancing rules-lite and character customization styles fairly well. I've created tons of homebrew worlds, campaigns, and monsters for campaigns. DMing is super fun for me, tbh. I always enjoy it more than playing a character.

I have never tried 5e but I understand that it simplifies the current systems and takes it back to encourage old school style of play. I appreaciate this. As a kid and youngster I played some 2e, that was the game I grew up knowing. Later on I briefly tried some 3.5e and 4e and It felt like D&D had turned into a computer game. I didn't like it at all. To me D&D was always about creating fiction, not optimizing character sheets and those editions seemed to encourage it the other way around.
Lately I've felt a burning to get back into D&D and I've started to study it again. I got me the old school monster manual and 1st edition DMG/Player's Handbook and I've been running a practice game of sorts with the keep on the borderlands module. I also got the Village of Hommlet module for starter levels to run. I also composed some backdrop music for my D&D stuff. I'm so glad I got into this, it was definitely something I was missing in my life. Now I just have to find another DM so I can also participate as a player.

D&D 5e was my first p&p RPG and I tried as the DM. We are playing in an heavily Middle-Earth influenced world and I implicated some NPCs from there. I think it's a great game for Beginners because it's easy to understand. But my favorite game is MERS/MERP (Middle-earth Role Playing) because the combat system feels more like real combat and I'm a huge LOTR fan.

5e is a really decent system and I really enjoy that it has brought so many new people to the hobby. I'd like to run more OSR-style games or just pure dungeon crawls but not all my players enjoy that style of a game. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the modern Critical role influenced style but the wonderful thing about DnD is that you can play it in so many ways.

I play 5e, I think it's a great system as well as a great choice aesthetically to simplify things back to 'Dungeons and Dragons'. My group might give Star Wars 5e a try as well, the rules seem pretty good at first skim but I will be reading them in more detail soon. sw5e.com/

Yes Tulkas I own the DM and Players book. I had no time to play it, but already have read it. Looking forward to get started with a group later this year. But I hardly know other people who are playing RPG outside my MERS and D&D group, so it's quite difficult to get something started.

A side effect of 5e being a good system is that people would rather fit whatever theme to 5e rules. This makes learning new games unappealing to many. Those of use who like learning mew systems find ourselves doing so for fun without ever being able to play them, hah!

I am definitely in that latter category. It can be tough to find people willing to commit to learning a new system.

I think Adventures in Middle-Earth is just another D&D setting based on 5e, in my opinion it's not a new game to learn if you played 5e. It feels more like an expansion when you read it or a new theme, but yes I agree with you. It's pretty hard to gather people to play other things than already established systems, especially when they became a good leveled character and got good gear xD.
