One of the best things about Dungeon Synth (as with Black Metal) is that the scene is impossible to 'police'. There are no gatekeepers who get to decide what is and is not DS - the only true measure is how much the community embraces it, and even then, if you are making the music you want, who gives a fuck.
That said, for me, once you are straying too far from fantasy, history and the dungeon in theme, I think you have arrived somewhere that isn't DS - doesn't mean it's not good.
Nonetheless, space or 'cosmic' dungeon synth is an experiment that some are trying, and I say hails to them for trying to forge their own path...
I think there are some melodic ambient side projects of DS musicians that would appeal, but not so many explicitly DS and Science Fiction. I remember a space themed release from Oxnamag, and one from Urguhn as well.

I really also would like to see more releases explore space or sci/fi territories from a DS point of view .. Leere's album above is certainly a must listen indeed... I would immediately add Grimrik since he is exactly in that early electronic inspired territory , and he has great discography.. But other than that nothing off the top of my head.. I'll keep an eye though and whenever I listen or relisten something similar new or older, I'll post accordingly..

I would say it's most definitely possible. I look at dungeon synth personally as it having a relationship with the tabletop roleplaying games of the 70's 80's it encompass the feel of an OD&D dungeon crawl and old school d&d would be nothing without the classic sci-fi books that helped inspire it like dying earth by jack vance.

I agree about Dying Earth and Traveller. I would also add Warhammer 40K and Gamma World. Also, some good topics could be Dune by Frank Herbert, Solaris by Stanislaw Lem, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Time Machine by H. G. Wells (morlocks!), H. P. Lovecraft's works, and even Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury (it has a really eerie atmosphere).
Some pulp-era sci-fi novels and comics like A Princess of Mars, Tarrano the Conqueror, Across Space, The Centauri Device, Flash Gordon (space opera, sword & planet, planetary romance and so on) also could be a suitable field of influence.
Another source of inspiration could be classic videogames like Loom, Starcraft, Doom...
Even some key aspects of 1984, Alien, 2001 Space Odissey, Ubik, Blade Runner / Do Androids..., Rendez-vous With Rama, Foundation series, A Clockwork Orange or Neuromancer are really gloomy and melancholic.
I wonder if anyone could make DS based on hard sci-fi literature: Greg Egan, Alastair Reynolds or Neal Stephenson.
This is Star Wars themed, and while I really like the original trilogy I didn't get the specific vibes BUT this is some really nice and so good DS release on its own merit, that is definitely a warranted listen!! Soft to the ear but epic, tripy of course with scifi vibes and I guess for the real hardcore Star Wars fans there are more than enough references, a great choice to listen!
Grey Hollow: Thanks for Recommendations geezers - I will listen to them definately!! I hope you're all well - it's a sunny day in Glasgow and I'm sipping a cold one with the windows open and the sun streaming in.
