Anyone else excited for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord? I very rarely get excited about new games nowadays but this is something I'm incredibly hyped on. I played the original Mount & Blade back when it was made available and have loved it since then. I also played some Warband online. The only thing it was lacking was a cohesive campaign with story elements and goals. Bannerlord promises to deliver these. It is planned to release in the end of this month as an early access title. This is a very unique video game that is hard to even compare to any others. If you don't know what it is, please check it out. It's basically a medieval combat simulator with strategy and action in one.

I am extremely excited. I'm so glad to see this thread, I've been a huge fan of Mount & Blade for many years. I still play Warband regularly, using a variety of mods. I'm actually about to beat the game in the Lord of the Rings mod, "The Last Days of the Third Age", which I strongly recommend. It's amazing to see the level of detail and faithfulness to the source material, especially in an archaic engine like Warband. You can explore every location from Middle Earth, dive into the mines of Moria, climb to the top of Minas Tirith, battle well-rendered orcs and trolls, discover tons of secrets, interact with NPCs and gain legendary treasures.
Other great mods: 1257 AD (middle ages Europe/Near East) Gekokujo (Warring States period Japan) Brytenwalda (Dark Ages Britain) Viking Conquest A Clash of Kings (Game of Thrones) Warsword Conquest (Warhammer, still a little buggy but really unique)
Most of these mods are really historically accurate and feature hundreds, if not thousands of beautiful custom items, models and scenery.
Many of these mods feature actual storylines, or in other cases, there are lots of unique locations and secrets to unravel. Viking Conquest is notable for having an entire involved, detailed plot that weaves in and out of real history. It's also quite well-written. A Clash of Kings has many long, involved missions that will carry you across Westeros, and there are also many unique locations to explore for treasure and experience. There are also events from the book that can occur and change the tide of the wars, such as the Red Wedding and the Targaryen invasion.
I'm really looking forward to Bannerlord as well, but now is a great time to enjoy all the fantastic work that the Warband community has done over the years. It truly is a unique game.

Boy am I glad I started this thread. Half of these mods are unknown to me. Now I have to go and get the LOTR mod. I had no Idea such a thing existed. This sounds great! Can't wait what the modders come up with as the new game is released. The warband community sure is a unique one. This is such a beautiful thing in this day and age when this kind of modding culture is almost completely dead. This used to be the thing we did all the time.

Haha I'm glad to hear it, my friend. Have you got Mount & Blade Warband on Steam? If so, you can use the Steam Workshop to download the latest version of The Last Days mod, which is what I'm using. It was just updated to a stable version about 2 weeks ago. If not, you can still use the latest version on the ModDB. Let me know which and I'll post the link, and let me know which other mods you're interested in and I'll post the links to those too.

I originally bought a physical copy but I have since added it on Steam. Thanks for the tip. Launching Steam right now.

Oh yes, the LOTR mod is great, I have beaten int already a few times, each time with a different race. However, I still have to beat it playing an evil race, which is incredibly hard.

I beat the game as the forces of Gondor, which was quite fun. I've almost beaten it with the forces of Mordor - we've destroyed Gondor & Rohan and the elves of Mirkwood and Lorien are almost defeated. Playing as an orc is indeed very difficult, but playing as an evil human is a lot more manageable. Especially if you play as a man of Khand, Harad or a Black Numenorean of Mordor.

As I am currently re-reading Lord of the Rings I feel a kind of desire to play the mod again, maybe I will try it as an evil man, instead of an orc.

TBH, I'm not excited about M&B2. I think there's not much to add to initial sandbox concept that has not been already added in mods (graphics enhancements, quests and dialogues enhancements, army management enhancements, items enhancements, factions enhancements etc). And adding the campaign IMO somehow ruins that sandbox charm.

That's fair. To me the sandbox felt pretty pointless at times and I found myself longing for proper objectives. What I'm also looking for is whether there will be a new burst of creativity in the modding scene with the new game. It's not like Warband is dead or anything but this might just be a start for something even greater. We'll see.

Ive been playing Mount & Blade for 12 years now and probably have over 3000 hours logged. It's one of my all-time favorite games. Warband will always have a special place in my heart, and I'm sure I'll find myself coming back to it over the years. But, the original engine was made in 2008 and it is starting to get a little creaky. I'm excited to see what Taleworld can do with a brand new coat of paint. I have faith it will be another great game. The graphics and the sieges look amazing.

Let me know how it is, probably won't be able to try for a few more days if at all... my computer is about 8 years old, don't know if it can handle Bannerlord.

So far it's great. It has a lot more depth to the mechanics than Warband. You can teleport to key NPC's when you reach a town so you don't have to always run around looking for them, grinding tournaments is no more a proper way of making money but you get equipment as a price instead. You can (and often have to) angle your shield just like blocking with a weapon. I made my money by grinding looters and then investing to form caravans and purchase workshops to set up steady income. The skill system is completely different. You now have to actually practice a skill to get better at it. You only put points towards them to raise the learning cap and then you have to actually trade to get better at trading, ride to get better at riding etc.
Striking footmen when riding seems quite a bit harder than before which I'm not sure if I like but I'll get used to it I guess. The AI is better (not great, but better) which means that you can't be a superhero and riding towards a prepared unit most often means you will get hit and hurt. You also now have a shield bash so you can use the function of "kick" out of shield. It's very handy in dueling situations.
I haven't got to the point of kingdom building yet but I hear it's very incomplete right now since we're in early access and all that.
But yeah so far I'm loving it and it's pretty much what I hoped it would be. It's not fancy, new or shining. It's just as gritty and indie as the original just like it needs to be.

I've got it but unfortunately it barely runs on my computer Even with it set to the lowest settings it still chugs and stutters (especially during combat... the worst time). With the settings all set on Very Low it also looks significantly worse than Warband. So, I guess I'm stuck with Warband for now. Can't really afford to upgrade my PC since money is extra-tight due to the virus. Hopefully as time goes on, the game will become better optimized and I might be able to play.
