I’m in the north of England and I’m not seeing much change yet. Roads are slightly quieter but the shop I work in is still very busy. My oldest daughters school is still open but supposedly closing down this week but we have decided to keep her home from today.
If my work does decide to close down for some time then I will take the opportunity to spend some nice time at home with my wife and two girls. I work 6 days a week so don’t get enough time with them. I’m sure I will also get some good time in working on my new album and also playing some video games. Until that happens though it’s just carry on as normal and deal with things as and when they occur.

In Finland, our borders will be closed for tourists and travellers on midnight between Wednesday and Thursday. Public gatherings of more than 10 people are forbidden. Schools are closed (as well as museums and so on). People are strongly urged to stay at home. Private companies such as restaurants are allowed to be open, but are encouraged to stay closed.
Honestly, I'm slowly starting to go crazy. Due to various unrelated health issues I've been confined to my home for the majority of the past month already. And now another month - at least!
I'm quite worried. Not because of the virus - it's nasty business and I understand the need to, as they say, "flatten the curve" and try to curb its spread - but it's not the end of the world. What I'm worried about is the impact all these drastic measures will have. How bad will the recession become? How many companies will go bankrupt? How many people will lose their jobs? How long will it take to repair all the damage done to people and society?

today, the most dramatic peak of this situation have been reached in Italy: 474 people have passed in the last 24 hours, a mass murder. PLEASE, STAY AT HOME.in the following photo: Italian Army is taking away 65 dead bodies from the city of Bergamo, beacause there's no more room in graveyards, crematories etc:

There are as many possible profiteers from such 'pandemy' as losers so... It will be soon forgotten just like recent 'pig flu', 'avian flu' or 'atypic pneumonia' (who does still remember these first similar attempts of 'pandemic social manipulation' now?).

It will be soon forgotten just like recent 'pig flu', 'avian flu' or 'atypic pneumonia' (who does still remember these first similar attempts of 'pandemic social manipulation' now?). I really don't want to get into a fight, but don't be foolish. All of those previous strains of virus are taken *very* seriously by a) all the world health organisations who keep a very careful eye on the resurgence of them, and b) by the countries (mostly in east Asia) who were badly affected by them. If you're insinuating some conspiracy-theory nonsense, perhaps consider just keep it to yourself while real people are really dying? stormcrow - That's awful, I worry we're heading for similar scenes in Britain soon, as a lot of people have not been taking advise seriously and are still out possibly spreading it around.

If you're insinuating some conspiracy-theory nonsense, perhaps consider just keep it to yourself while real people are really dying? Real people are really dying every minute everywhere. But no one cares and no one spotlights it in the media in the right light.

But no one cares and no one spotlights it in the media in the right light. While this is at least partially true, you are still downplaying the losses people are experiencing now and it's pretty untasteful.

I'm in eastern France. Locked-up for two weeks at least (probably one month, if not two or three). Lots of people don't respect the law, so the epidemic is gonna continue spreading. I have enough food for a siege and lots of video games to play. I keep on coding my interactive fictions and working on my next releases. I start missing long walks tho.

First saw the effect here in Northeastern USA almost one week ago, but it was as the two schools I teach at went into a two week vacation, so for me the effect has been minimal at the moment. I am forced to teach some private lessons via streaming which is not my favorite approach to teaching, but it is so far working OK.
This timeline is an interesting contrast to trying to keep track of the last days of news updates etc. Hard to believe it’s all changed so quickly. Strength to you all.

Update from the New Jersey side of things - most things are closed; I’m doing most of my work from home. There is a strongly recommended 8 PM curfew, I don’t think they’ve been enforcing it yet though. Also, it’s not like you aren’t allowed to leave your home here yet.
I’ll be working in the field today (alone and away from others), so that should help keep me from going too nuts.
While water temperatures are still pretty low, I might break out the kayak early and do that, just on small still places where I’m not immediately screwed if I fall in. Pretty easy to practice social distancing when you’re alone in the middle of a waterbody.

If it is so bad in Italy, I can't help but wonder how bad it really was/is in China. Somehow, I don't trust their official numbers.

If it is so bad in Italy, I can't help but wonder how bad it really was/is in China. Somehow, I don't trust their official numbers. Italy has now surprassed China in coronavirus deaths (something over 4k), but I believe China still has the most cases in a single country (80k, I believe). The most staggering thing is the speed at which it's spread, pretty much like nothing else. I know it was hitting like 3k new cases per day in China for a bit, but either yesterday or the day before that they had their first 0 new cases day, which seems rather sudden. They've really taken some extreme measures like just straight up barricading some neighborhoods or locking up apartment complexes. The governer of my state has drafted a lock-out quarantine plan but doesn't want to use it until absolutely necessary (the economy is already plummeting into the earth's core). We're currently just running on bans on gathering of 25+, no spring term for schools, essentially all retail stores closed (not my mandate), and all restaurants are only allowed to offer takeout. I suspect a curfew is coming soon, and I'm betting the city will be on lockdown within a week or two. Definitely a weird time.

Well, Britain is now a week into a proper lockdown, and as of tomorrow I am furloughed from my job (though the government are going to keep paying -most- of my wages, so not particularly a terrible outcome).
This however means I now have two months inside with nothing to do, giving me no excuse to not finish some more music and art. Unfortunately my Glomstriden follow up is going in more of a Neofolk direction, so I doubt it will be *as* welcome here, but we'll see how that shakes out - I must follow the muse as it directs!
Other than that, the biggest contribution I think I can make to public health is to stay out of the way...
