What music do you love that is completely out of character for you and quite unlike your usual listening choices?
Post your confessions to the support thread here. It's gonna be OK. We'll get through this together
Anyway, my name is Rick and I really love 80s era ZZ Top.

Well there are lots of stuff I listen to that thematically/lyrically may feel dumb, but the music is great..
First example that comes to mind : specific gangsta hip-hop.. Best example, the monumental imho album of 2Pac "Thug Life" :
A masterpiece really but certainly not expecting to like that kinda stuff, especially when I fist listened to it in 2006 , then still very strongly into metal music.. Excellent stuff though again, althouth the lyrics sometimes are really silly (but in the context of the *as I imagine* 90s hip hop gangsta style..
Hopefully I understood the theme of the thread correctly!

I don't really know what's out of character for me since I'm not sure people musically perceive me, but I probably have a lot of stuff that people would consider 'guilty pleasures', though I do not feel guilty about it, haha.
A short list of some possibly out of character enjoyment, not in order of severity:
1.) Madonna Madonna rules. You should definitely listen to Madonna. Really encapsulates the 80s pop sound I love with the cheesy instrumentation. Tough to pick between her self-titled and Like a Virgin, but 'Angel' is her best song.
2.) Evanescence Goth metal is my big thing, so I guess this one isn't super out of character, it's just the most commercial the genre has ever gotten. Haven't really heard anything past The Open Door, but I like everything prior. Hard to act like 'Tourniquet' doesn't bring the windmills. (Apologies in advance to the exodus of forum members this mention will ensue)
3.) All that 00s alternative with a nu-metal edge Linkin Park, Alien Ant Farm, the first Lost Prophets album, even the self-titled Hoobastank. I don't why. It just makes me feel nostalgic.
4.) Sneaker Pimps The only song I know is 'Six Underground', but I love it. I was not aware that this was lame to like. Oh well. I'm big on this era of slick trip hop influenced stuff and I'm real into big beat like The Prodigy.
There's probably a lot more, but I won't give everyone the full dosage of how many ridiculous things I like all at once.

I also love 80s ZZ Top but it's not "out of character" since I listen to an amount of blues-rock every now and then (The Doors, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan and obviously Hendrix). Maybe, my real "O.O.C." listening are:
1) Angelo Branduardi an Italian folk singer/songwriter with lots of medieval and renaissance influences (I covered a lot of his songs, but released just one on latest Sidereal Fortress album). I'm not a collector of folk Music and Italian pop in general, but I collect stuff from him since I saw him live in 1997.
2) Ramones I've never been into punk, but I absolutely LOVE that band, especially the live albums.
3) Steve Vai / Joe Satriani / Eric Johnson fusion guitar wizardry is not my cup of tea. But I love those three. Steve Vai stands above ALL.
4) Queen one of my all times favourite bands. The point is: they can't be classified inside a genre. Maybe pop rock? Well, I think they're the only pop rock band I listen to.

Haven't been able to get into any other Madonna songs though, even the rest of Ray of Light, the album with those two tracks and produced by William Orbit who I'm a big fan of.

Hard to tell, what would be considered out of character, but I recently discovered my love for Michael Jackson and some Herbert GrΓΆnemeyer songs. I think these two artists could be considered unusual to someone who mostly listens to (extreme) metal.
I am also into some Doom Jazz bands, but I guess this genre fits more to my generally negative character.

I remember Jeff Scott Soto playing live a great cover of "Frozen". Something like 20 years ago. You should search for it!

I rented the Making of Thriller VHS from our towns video library so much that eventually my parents relented and bought me my own copy. No-one can tell me that this isn't awesome -

Party, I think it's not contradictory to like 80s in general, Madonna (La Isla Bonita,Like a Prayer etc.) Michael Jackson (Beat it, Billie Jean etc etc.)have legendary songs, are two 80s icons, especially in the day stars were EVER more huge that I think now with all those endless "stars" and wannabes... So nothing unusual here, I think in the relevant 80s thread we have (don't we?) lots of ppl and in other discussions loves 80s .. Which were full of atmospheres and synths , kinda very very related in a way with our Dungeon Synth Even what I posted about 2pac as per topic "out of character" won't much since the gangsta mentality is *very* close to the soccer "ultras" mentality (albeit not at that level of gunmachinery of course, thankfully), which is very common in Europe in general.. I really try hard to think of something but I will return again in the thread..

Recently I have found myself really enjoying the album 'The Lexicon of Love' by ABC. Sublime 80s pop!

Maybe "guilty pleasures" could describe this thread? Italo Disco, 80's synthpop, darkwave, and minimal synth probably for me. I can appreciate some really fun cheesy stuff now, that I didn't before.
