As I was active in the Scandinavian black metal scene some 20 years ago, I participated in a number of projects. One, which was my very own, was called Conjured to Baphometh and was heavily inspired by the early stuff on Dark Age Productions (Equitant, Cernunnos Woods, Akrabu and Dalkhu Zilittu), even if my youth at the time made the whole thing a bit.. Odd. Either way, I've now made the two tapes I released in 95 and 97 available on bandcamp. They should be of historical value, if nothing else, and I myself feel there is a hit tune or two hidden on there, somewhere. It wasn't called dungeon synth back then, and there's more of an "occult" vibe to them, but really the sound is pretty much exactly what this stuff has always been about for me. Let me know what you think (not that it matters, I couldn't do this precise type of stuff anymore with any credibility, since the folly of youth is no longer there).
Thanks a lot for sharing this material. I hadn't heared about Conjured to Baphomet until some days ago, when I read something in a blog about your project Malitiae, and the name Conjured to Baphomet appeared in the text. I've just listened both tapes: I think they sound incredibly 90s and they are really good and enjoyable. Thanks again!
Somehow I like Flowing Through Crystal Lakes and Mountains a lot. How you used the instruments and stuff. Feels very retro, in a good way.
In dungeon synth/BM side project atmospheric, I think 1995 and 1997 is pretty much as old as something gets, except for the actual fathers of the genre. Flowing Through Crystal Lakes and Mountains is also the oldest track of the project. I remember making a rehearsal recording of that track using a keyboard and the built in mic of an old boom box, but that one is (luckily?) lost. Had I done any of this today it would have been much different, and probably not even half as interesting. But "better", of course.
