I'm an old school gamer; the "newest" system we have is the Wii (the original, NOT later Wii U).
I've got
*Atari 7800 with 2600 games *Vectrex *Sega Genesis/32X/CD *Some pc games
*Some handhelds *Some plug and play systems *Chromebook with a few games

I've got some stuff lying around that I haven't touched in awhile. My main stay is usually my PC. It's looking like with old releases and console exclusives starting to die off, I may be going full on PC all the way down.
But a total list would be: *PC *PS2 / PS3 *Xbox 360 *3DS *PS Vita I think I might have and old nintendo box somewhere..?
Are we including tabletop gaming stuff, or just consoles?

That's good. If we included tabletop I'd probably break the forums text boxes. I've found it's pretty fun to roll dice from time to time. Of what you've got, what would you say was your favorite?

And nothing wrong with board games either Of what you've got, what would you say was your favorite? Atari 2600. I still plan on getting one of the PlayStations at some point though. Lotta real good stuff there throughout the years and all the ones they've done, to say the least.

If you're aiming for a play station, then I think it's only just that on the Dungeon synth forums that I give Demon Souls a plug. The Remaster on the newest Play Stations was masterfully done by Blue Point studios. Sony really picked the cream of the crop to do it. Give it a look up on youtube and see if you're interested. It was one of the titles that really got me hooked on medieval RPG's, besides oldschool dungeons and dragons video games.
I'd say some of the soundtracks from the original title might classify as dungeon synth as well. The remaster tracks are a little more metally than the original.

It sucks when someone does a remake and then screws it up. One of my favorite carts on the Genesis, for instance, is the Williams' Arcade's Greatest Hits, as Digital Eclipse did a great job in porting the arcade classics of Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Joust and Sinistar with barely a hitch in any of them (on a scale to 1 to 10 I give it a full 10). It was one of the titles that really got me hooked on medieval RPG's, besides oldschool dungeons and dragons video games. That's good. I played several of them on the Genesis but Shining in the Darkness was the only one I ever kept and still play, even though a lot of it involves grinding to get players' experience levels up and all. But then I never played either of the Phantasy Star games (I think there were two), Land Stalker or Rings of Power. Played the first two Shining Force games and the one for the CD and didn't think they were too huge a deal.

Now if only we could get more triple A studios to higher on studios whose whole thing is ports. They usually tend to do a more full job. I think a lot of ports are treated as distractions by big studios and they don't get the attention they need for a proper re-release.
I actually just checked, and I could pick up a genesis emulator and give it a run. I play all kinds of stuff, and if you're still running it, it has to be good. I believe I touched on Phantasy star at some point, but the memory is hazy. Speaking of re-releases, One of my absolute favorite games that square Enix made back in the day for the PS1 is getting ported onto PC. Good ol' Legend of Mana. I could live and die just playing that game. Fantastic soundtrack too.

I think a lot of ports are treated as distractions by big studios and they don't get the attention they need for a proper re-release. Interesting thoughts I imagine it's a tricky market. There's some kind of arcade series that's been out for a couple of years now that I just found out about the other month when I saw Defender at my local Target, being billed as a miniature version of the arcade classic (all the games come in their own cabs, but maybe you've seen them though). I looked it up on YouTube but it's the NES (or maybe SNES) port of...Stargate, the sequel? Uh, that's not Defender. I've since checked out a couple of other videos and some of the units are total garbage. Why companies don't bother giving us what we want (the ORIGINALS, or as close to them as you can get, dammit!) is beyond me. I actually just checked, and I could pick up a genesis emulator and give it a run. I play all kinds of stuff, and if you're still running it, it has to be good. Well I don't know what your tastes are and they could differ. For example, everyone I've seen on gaming forums when asked "I just got a Genesis, what games should I get?", everyone says to get all of the Sonic the Hedgehog games. I've played all of them and the first one and the CD versions are the only ones I've kept. I've got Sonic 3 but that was because someone had an extra copy and gave it to me. I'm going to see about trading it off at some point. It's a good game but I never felt obligated to getting all of them. Just not that big of a fanboy for Genesis Sonic. You'll have to make maps of the first two dungeons if you give Shining in the Darkness a serious try but after that one of the members of your team will be able to auto create maps from there. It is a bit intriguing how things keep on opening up as you go along though. Speaking of re-releases, One of my absolute favorite games that square Enix made back in the day for the PS1 is getting ported onto PC. Good ol' Legend of Mana. I could live and die just playing that game. Fantastic soundtrack too. Indeed, I've heard great things about Legend of Mana

I could live and die just playing that game. Fantastic soundtrack too. Indeed, I've heard great things about Legend of Mana Interesting, I recently tried to get into that game after having looked forward to playing it for a long time. Some of the best handdrawn graphics I've ever seen, and beautiful music. Luckily I kept my old CRT TV all these years, so playing this on a PS2 (my PS1 is broken ) on that screen really rolled back the years. And hurt my eyes a little , but I still prefer playing old games on CRT displays! But sadly because of the non-linear nature of this game, the story didn't hook me enough to keep playing. All these loose quests didn't really interest me. I really wanted to love this game, but alas... I had the same problem with Saga Frontier back in the day, but LoM is miles better imo... Consoles we have at home: - PS1, 2, 3, 4 - Super Famicom - Super Nintendo - Nintendo 64 - Gamecube - Wii / Wii U - Switch - Dreamcast - Atari 2600 - 3DS - GBA

I think this overlaps with this thread dungeonsynth.proboards.com/thread/336/systems-handhelds but still always a joy to read about video games n stuff Since my last post on that thread I haven't got any new (or old) system... But playing/using a lot my pcs and consoles for retro gaming ... Mostly loading Exodos collections and get reminded of my childhood DOS excavations.. Such a must have (if you don't have it please do yourself a favor and search it up, it's like MAME for DOS but all in one pack... The guy has done a huge service for mankind imho Btw, I won't be starting a new thread for this, but anyone who has an OK GPU (=4gb GPU ram and more) should be mining the heck out of it cause if you're not, you leave money on the table your pc can give you... One of the reasons I was MIA for a while couple past months is that rabbit hole that mining is, I feel I'm 10 years late but still the train people hasn't left forever, it's still early so if you have a good pc don't use it for gaming, use your consoles and mine a bit whatever you can.. Regards!

Hi. I bought myself a new PC last week. I have never had a computer for about five years. All the novelties of the gaming industry passed me by. That was frustrating. I could not do anything besides running an old RPG on an old laptop. So I spent most of my time on minecraft survival servers. My new computer is my honor. I gave relatively little money for the i3 case by the cost standards. It has three front fans. However, I was choosing a graphic card for a long time. I wanted to buy a GTX 1660 initially, but I purchased GTX 1660 in the end. My mouse and keyboard are produced by the Bloody company. I liked their design and price.

Hey briannosch ! Well, playing good old RPGs on a laptop, ain't sounding bad at all to me really more like a privilege I always enjoy playing dosbox mostly (especially through Exodos compilations, look them up!!).. The graphic card maybe prev gen but since my 1650 super on one of my desktops can nicely run Read Dead Redemption 2, I think you gonna have some good time catching up with many many backlog of games..

A dolphin emulator and a controller adaptor for the console that I've already gotten bored of.
