Who builds worlds. Maybe more specially which DS creators have created their own world / mythology / universe for their records. It is no secret that fantasy literature encourages creative geography, I am just curious if there are other creators with worlds that we do not know about it, possibly with maps. I am aware of Erang's Land of the Five seasons and actually just last night, the land that is being created by Canrith Knox at Hollow Myths. I have always found imaginary lands interesting and the need to look at maps and think of interacting with these worlds. I jokingly came up with an idea of making a light system that would allow people to use these worlds as settings for RPG games which would perhaps be the pinnacle of my nerdy exploits. Can we catalog an Atlas Obscura for all of the imaginary lands tied to Dungeon Synth? I'm working on a comic right now called The Wyrd Well which is heavily influenced by ds and is all about the world building. Nice work. Very nordic feel. Drawing to music is a nice method of free inspiaration. Some music tends to build worlds. I remember how we was given the task of drawing with red only while listening to Betgakungens Sal when in gradeschool

I'm trying to get my artist friends into dungeon synth too because it's really helpful with world building.

A book! That would be incredible! I'm so excited about the possibilities of the dungeon synth aesthetic reaching into other media. Your videos have been so inspiring! A perfect combination of sounds and images.

That's an interesting thread! The maps already presented are very appealing. I'm also designing an imaginary land, and a constructed language associated with it. The first one is a bitmap (static picture) map, the second one is using vectorial tools, rendered using some openstreetmap technologies. There is a thread about this creation on cartographer's guild: www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=5409Btw, I recommend to visit this great website, they feature fantasy maps all the time!

inkybat, beautiful work! I'll have to check that comic out once it's complete. garvalf, I had no idea that forum existed but I love it. Where do I start with tutorials? I'm mainly interested in hand-made maps.

I used to create my own RPG's (and their worlds) when I was a teen (and I never stopped, actually) Drawing is not my primary skill, as you can see.

Wanted to finish this map and post here like more then a year ago, and completely forgot about it. Since i'll probably won't have time to finish it in the coming year, here it is: How do you suggest me to continue the map in the future? Inspire me! Also, i guess there are some newcomers who have not seen this old thread and have some awsome maps!

Pilgrim's Shadow, I guess it would be nice to see some features in the water - islands/archipelagos, etc. From the buildings it seems like kind medieval Europe-equivalent setting, but what are their seafaring capabilities? Always good to see this thread get bumped. I have been following the subreddit for Worldbuilding and there are some interesting concepts - many not to my liking, but are very good for making me think. One used various real-world facts to ponder what would happen when a dragon or other large creature died - how long the body would take to decay, what environmental impact it would have. Very detailed stuff but the kind of thing that really helps a world to breath because as a reader or viewer I would not have thought of this on my own.

Good point! Sea needs more living signs. The Huge city in the middle was planned to be a port town, and i guess the city which is right to it can travel to the sea by the river, even though it wasn't planed. Some new cities and wierd islands can be added, not neceserily medieval, but kind of outworldly obscure.

on the project I am working on and am building, I have a world influenced by all the daydreams and characters and places I've had floating around in my head since I was a wee lad. I have maps somewhere but I'd have to find them. I always considered writing my stories and stuff but decided I don't like writing much. The I decided music and sound would be the ideal way for me. If I can find where I stored my maps I'll post them! But sadly I don't remember!

Superb art here.
I also enjoy developing maps, worlds and fiction of unknown and forgotten places... These are the maps of my Mythic Thule, as Greeks and latin/mediterranean folks could saw it:
Some runes, seals and sigils...
