This is huge part of my childhood musical landscape. Some absolutely beautiful songs there, and plenty of wacky ones. The original art of Tove Jansson is also perfect for DS, sadly the copyright holders are notoriously strict about their use. The music of Fog Castle reminds me of these songs, some similar atmospheres and sounds there.

cryptzzz never heard back then of the series, it seems it's a very much loved anime of the good days, 90-91, probably never reached Greece at the time(although I always was into western classic cartoons, only specific eastern had the flavor I liked, eg Vampire Hunter D).. So about the music of Moomin, specifically parts of it, could easily indeed be inside a standard DS album and be indistingishable from regular ds canon release ! Good find and catch, maybe even repost this at the thread of Proto DS sounds, while this is not "proto" or DS it certainly is of interest to people and in retrospect to scholars of the genre and its many fusion of sounds..

It was actually my fiancee who found and made me listen to it as I'm getting more into DS lately. It's actually not anime but a Finnish cartoon based on a book series. The cartoon was fairly popular in Poland I think, I always remembered it as a mixture of something nostalgic and even strangely spooky.

Actually, it is is anime since it was made by a Japanese animation studio (with some Dutch and Finnish co-producing). The music is also by a Japanese artist, Sumio Shiratori. There's also two earlier animes made but they were considered sub-par and not properly adapted by Jansson and his brother. And there was definitely loads of spooky stuff going on in multiple episodes!

cryptzzz This OST is actually one of my favorites to listen to during winter. I find myself coming back to it each year and I really love the subtle eeriness to the music. You can find quite a few of the old Moomin anime episodes on Youtube as well! There has been a recent reboot of the Moomin cartoons with a Finnish studio based off the original stories as well, however there is something comforting about watching older animation imo ଘ(੭ˊᵕˋ)੭
