Hi friends,
I posted about this recently without much discussion, so would like to try again. I am wondering if any of you have examples of projects that have dungeon synth overtones/feelings, but are definitely not dungeon synth itself. I am really drawn to the sounds of DS, and feelings it evokes, but not that much the aesthetics all the time, and I try to replicate that in my music. I'm especially into more pure "ambient" dungeony music, like Vindkaldr, that is very long and quiet.
I think that albums like Zeit by Tangerine Dream really encapsulate this feeling for me. It still evokes something of dungeon synth, but it doesn't feel like it is aesthetically consistent with DS. I don't mean its bad that dungeon synth music feels consistent stylistically -- this is a good thing and I love listening to it. But I am curious about the borderlands of this mysterious, evocative feeling.
If anyone has any feedback, its very welcome. I am trying to hone in on the sound I am looking for, which is unusually timed, looping simple melodies that feel comforting but unnerving.
Ok, cheers everyone.

Maybe not necessarily Dungeon Adjacent, but Synth by Thee Oh Sees is pretty great. France live at Chelles is pretty good if you're into drone. Rano Pano by Mogwai is kinda ambient post rock. oOOoo Iodine Sky by Black Light Burns would definitely be up your alley for sure. Sรฉรคncรซ by Labyrinth Crawl, too, is probably more what you're looking for. Uhhhh, maybe this cover of Mysterious Woods; www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmBJz3j03swThat's all I got for you.
