Hello everyone. The new Khand EP was just released here: This is some of the material I've been working on in the last few years. The production is a little more gritty than my last album & the songs are varied. While I had a blast at the North East Dungeon Siege this year, I was bummed for not being able to play my set due to technical difficulties - the last thing I want to do is disappoint my good friends who run NEDS, the fans and fest-goers. It was a tough night. I hope you all enjoy this EP as much as I had fun making it. Thanks for listening.

Is this made with tracker software? I love that raw sampler sound, like hearing the pops and crackles when they loop. It reminds me a bit of the Shadow of the Beast soundtrack. I especially enjoyed Garden of Sweet Remembrance, very beautiful track.

Yes, these songs are 100% tracked music using instrument samples from the 90s tracking scene.. maybe one or two by me. I was going for a more atmospheric DS-type song for Garden of Sweet Remembrance, I'm glad you like it. Regarding the samples and their loops, here's a short song module I just made using some of the same old samples. Feel free to check it out.. if you have tracker software, see if you can use them or check out the way the loops work. I even threw in the shriek sample that was also used in Valor's La Lune Noire . I truly do believe there can be some good modern DS made using these kind of samples-- obviously there's much higher quality instrument sounds out there but these kinds of sounds are always nostalgic for me.

I loaded that into OpenMPT, very nice sounds here (of course love that Valor shriek), and this quick demonstration makes working with such software seem not so intimidating. Also I think it is neat how an entire song, including the samples, can be as small as 100kb. One of these days I'd like to try at least making one song this way.

I've been saying it for a few years now and should finally just sit down and do it, but I want to make some how-to videos on YouTube to use this kind of software and sounds to make DS / DS-adjacent music. I use midi and VSTs and hardware as well, but grew up writing music this way so it's something I know pretty well at this point. Ranger Rick, as well, very good tracker musician.
